I have the chance to trade my 09 yz 250 2t, for a 2011 yz 450 4t. I'm a 45 year old vet b class rider, and like the ease of maintenance on my yz 250 2t. But I love how easy the 4t are to ride. I've heard some good things about 2011 yz 450s, reliability being one of them. I'm not in the shape I once was and really have to be on my toes on the 2t. But have not jumped on the 4t band wagon yet. But think I would like to try. Just hard giving up the 2t, that's all I've ever ridden, but they just wear me out anymore. I can't afford a new bike due to my son races, and he runs 65cc and 85cc classes. I put almost all the money into his racing. I just race once in awhile, and love to ride with him. But would like to push it up a notch in 2015 and see how I do. My boy wants me to race more, and see his old man winning back like when I was young. So what Im asking is is this a good trade? It's an even up trade, my 250 2t is in great shape with lots of mods, and the 450 is in great shape. I'm thinking I'll have an easier time going fast on the 450. Just wanted some help making up my mind, thanks
I've gone the 4-stroke route 3 times, and always came back to 2-strokes. But they were good bikes too and I don't regret giving them a chance otherwise I'd still be wondering if I should or not.
At one point in my life I owned a 250F and a 125 but one had to go, so it was bye-bye for the thumper as I found I performed better on the machines I grew up riding.
If your heart is set on 2-strokes that much then you'll be back on one soon after!

I have already received more flak than I care to say over it. I was, and still am, a HUGE ambassador of two strokes. But when the 2 stroke blew up my father-in-law let me borrow his 09 CRF 450 to ride while it was getting fixed. All I will say is the proof was in the lap times. I am easily 2-3 seconds a lap faster on 450, and when I am going I have more fun, which is what this sport is all about anyways. My father-in-law noticed and said I can have that and he will take my 2 stroke if I prefer, and that's what I did. I may regret it one day, but the last month has been some of the most enjoyable riding I have had in a long time
Either way your getting a killer deal, and nothing is permanent. You have a very "high class" problem on your hands.

I'm trying to keep the two stroke faith by rebuilding a vintage 125 : ) !
Are you racing motocross or cross country? Twosmoke30 makes a valid point. If you're not totally sold on the decision to trade and you like your bike, you might try a flywheel weight.
