This may be extreme but what about a mid race "all track caution" allowing the field to bunch up like in the Lucas Oil truck races?

Didn't Travis199 build a multi-line track a couple years ago, that had lots of different line options....
I remember it was quite the track.

You betcha! One of the best track designs EVER, along with Kdubs design in Houston.

Get rid of bowl turns and add obstacles that would require the riders to slow down like steep hills or walls that couldn't be jumped and elevated turns. Then build the track, make adjustments during practice and park the fucking dozers. There has been over an hour of track grooming during the night program at some of these races. It would be nice to make supercross more than a jumping exhibition and I am guessing it would be safer if the top speeds were lowered.

I agree on this one and UAW's post
Why don't they apply that kind of creative thinking to the tracks they're building?
It ain't rocket science.

Good racing and a cool track actually negate eachother. While Pastrana's track had lots of options, by the main, everyone had found the fast line. Remember the elevated corner to the over under bridge where it was follow the leader? All the options made the track half as wide because the sections were split, all the while still being 1 lined.

To make the best racing, the tracks would honestly be completely dumb and simple. It would keep everyone close in speed, but it also won't allow guys to move forward from the back because everyone will be the same speed. Ever watch a local fair race or some of the Dade City MX coverage? The racing is sure intense, and you have to bang bars to get around. There is no starting in last and coming to first.

the problem is that they design all the tracks before the start of the year.

i can see a little pencil drawer with all the cookie-cutter rythem sections and triple jumps pulled out and re-arranged on a paper and then off to the press. no thought (in my opinion) is put into the track designs, the on-off tables suck and so do the stutter bump whoops.

time for some creativity. and what happened to 180 corners?

my suggestions:
more 180 degree corners equal more lanes equal longer laps and passing options
bigger whoops, maybe an obstacle in the middle/beginning/end
wall jumps
over under tunnels
off camber corners and elevated corner sections
multiple lines, maybe a bump at the inside to start the rythem but not on the outside
etc.

A2 (McGrath) and St. Louis (Pastrana) of 2009 were seriously the baddest ass tracks.

last year they eliminated some berms and made flat corners (coincidentally after I sent Rich Winkler an email), and that seemed to make the corners less one lined. Racers would either go to the inside and tip-toe around, or they would kind of go wide (but not fast since there was no berm to rail), to set up for a big triple going into the section, etc.

BRING BACK THE FLAT CORNERS!!!

At least a few of them on each track...
