Anybody have the short bed version of the Toyota Tacoma and is it long enough for MX bikes with the tail gate down and using a bed extender or ready ramp?

Don't - The Tacoma tailgates like to bend with ANY weight left on them for a period of time. Your best bet is to put the bike in "catty corner" and not have any weight on the bed. Really a pain with two bikes, then you have to do the weird way of turning the front against the steering stopped and tying down that way.

Put a plank in the bed and tie the bike down on top of it.

That tailgate is bent because something came down hard on the top of it and crushed it. My F250 gate looks like that now that one of my employees backed it into a loading dock in the down position. Pinch

I also notice there are no emblems on it, is that because they were removed from the original tailgate or is that a replacement aftermarket Chinese tailgate on there?

I get two 450's and all my gear/tools/lubes in the back of my dad's short bed Tacoma every weekend. You'll be good.

We downgraded from the biggest Tundra you can get to save on fuel after we sold our toy hauler. It was a good choice.

Edit, we don't use one of those gates, but it would work. I just use a bungie around my gear bag, which is the last thing I put in.

What this guy said. You didn't really say how many bikes you're wanting to load, probably more than one. But for one bike, the catty corner option is best. I had the X-runner model and moved a tiedown hook to the front of the bed where it meets the cab. Then I slid a hook in place about a quarter of the way from the cab to the end on each side. That way it didn't really matter which way I pushed the thing into my truck. It was a damn near perfect fit for the tailgate and sometimes had to push the bike up a little bit to get it to close.

I have the long bed version, with a Universal/CCR bed buddy and the aluminum ready ramp that doubles as a bed extender I can haul up to 3 bikes, that’s a tight squeeze but it’s doable, 2 easily. Also do not use the side tie down points for your bike, they are about useless for tying anything down that really needs to be tied down.

Been looking at getting some new wheels and tires soon, what size wheel and tire did you end up going with on yours? Also what guard do you have on the front? I know you did a write up on it maybe you can dig me up a link to it.

I've been putting my bikes into my shortbed Tacoma for 12 years and the tailgate hasn't bent yet. I also load two bikes in the old Taco from time to time.

I'll have to check the tires and wheels later (just dropped it off for service).

I have the long bed Tacoma and do not regret skipping the short bed. The tailgate shuts no problem with the bike in sideways and I've never had and tailgate problems loading two bikes with the wheels resting on the tailgate.

I thought it was the Tundra tailgates that were bending with the weight of a quad or heavy cruiser motorcycles on them, not the Tacomas.
