Saw this on FB tonight.

Classic MX! Looks to be 1972 in FL.

Lackey, Higgins, Pomeroy (I think), Hart, Karsmakers, Grossi...

That was at Amelia Earhart MX during the 1973 Winter AMA.
I think that's Ft. Pierce speedway.
I see the retaining walls from the oval asphalt track that shared the property at that time.

Here's the google map view of the track..... it was called, "Treasure Coast Speedway"
I went there one time in 73' with my buddy who raced a Penton in 125 expert class. He took home 2nd place trophy.
Track closed in 1974.
All the land developement in Florida these past 4 decades and this spot is still relatively untouched.
You can still clearly see the remnants of the oval track.
Amazing!

You're right, it was called Treasure Coast. Amelia Earhart was down in Hialeah. They had a National one year.

Must have killed off a few brain cells in the past 45 years of racing...

Great vid. Moto is and always has been so cool, and I remember my days as a little kid in the mid seventies watching and absorbing all of it. This clip just brought me right back. Thanks.

That was before a lot of current riders' time (including me). Having that been said, it is so hard to understand how fast those guys really rode their bikes by watching videos and not seeing them live. But there is a solution. I rode some AHRMA races for a while, and was able to see former pros ride those in person (and obviously not even going as fast as they did in their prime). Adding to that, I rode on the same tracks, on the same era bikes and believe me, when you watch and try it, you will realize how amazingly fast those bikes are ridden. It gave me a whole new appreciation for guys like Tom Benolkin, Dave Coupe, etc. To me, the most amazing part is the totally different approach of maximum momentum. Those bikes' brakes just dont work (very well, anyway), so its all about sweeping, to a large degree. You dont just point and shoot or blip the throttle to clear jumps.
