I currently have a 2005 YZ125. I absolutely love this bike, because of the fun factor and its a 125! I also got myself a 2006 RM250 in the Summer to spoil myself, plus I wanted some more power. Love both bikes, comfortable on both, but the YZ feels like its a "part" of my body. Now Winter is coming faster than we know, shoot. Now I have to make a decision. Should I sell my YZ125 or my RM250? I love both bikes, but I need to sell one of them. I plan on investing heavily into one over the Winter. Or keep both, and do simple modifications to one, and rebuild both. But....
If I keep the YZ125, I'm going to put a 144cc Eric Gorr kit, with the works. (Pipe, Reeds, Suspension.)
If I keep the RM250, I'm going to rebuild it and freshen up the bearings, put some bling parts to.
I race as well, and plan on going to the 250C class. Yes, the RM250 can race in the 250C class, AMA rules.
All input is welcomed!

For me as a racer, this has a simple solution. Take both out to a track. Do a 15 minute moto on each and time every lap. Keep the one you go the fastest on!! Not the fastest for a lap, but the fastest average overall.

Screw rational thinking !!!
Did Hitler think rationally when he sent the bomber's to Hawaii? ?? Hell no and this ain't time for rational thought now!!!!! Go spend that money you don't have or you'll never have a good reason to go earn it!!!!
You can thank your ole uncle 440 later .
Keep both and instead of spending money on bling and unnecesarry stuff, keep them both mechanically sound and fresh. No graphics or 144 kits or colored this or that. Spend your money on race entries and race two classes.

Those last gen rm's do everything well.

I took lap times between my 125, 250 smoker and 250F. 250 smoker was the worse bike for me, being vet B: above average hight, medium weight. I mean if racing is so important... Then the big riddle, what's more fun, what's cooler for you, might play into the equation as well. I picture a lot of people prefer a 250 two stroke because it's just more testosteron, anyone listening to a crisp 250 two stroke warming, and don't get a boner is either death or retarded, but I figure a majority actually sux even worse on it.
I sold my yz250 kept the yz125.
Good luck.
