Hey guys, Im about to buy a new set of boots and could use some suggestions. I have never bought brand new, or spent over $50 on a pair before, but since I just graduated high school Im going to treat myself.
I've been looking at the Gaerne GX-1 boot. Very good reviews and seems to be the best for the price. I want to stay around the $200 range, so what do you think is the best boot for that range? Also I'm looking for durability over all else, thanks

I'm looking for replacements also.
The Shop
I realize you're not into spending a lot; but, these boots have lasted at least TWICE as long as ANY boot I've ever worn. Ever.
Every-Year: I do several Baja rides that are for a week or longer...plus I track ride twice a week and I trial ride locally at-least once a week.
Again, my SG12s virtually DON'T wear out (sole) & they "clean-up" surprisingly well.
going along with the pivot, I have a long line of ankle injurys so with pretty weak ankles, Is a pivoting boot something that would help or hurt while riding?
Footbeds and ankle are comfy, but I wouldn't say I have particularly wide feet like you say you do. The hinge is great, and they seem very sturdy.
As new, the calves were flat and squeezed my legs, but a jammed some pickle jars in the boots and let them sit that way to get some curvature in the leg.
I also like the fact that the soles are replaceable should the need arise. With molded sole boots like the Astars or Fox pictured above, if the soles are shot you're shopping for new boots.
