Found a decent deal on some Tech 7's but the last thread I saw on them was this one in 2010 which is a bit discouraging.

http://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Moto-Related,20/Tech-7-VS-Tech-8-Boots,90…

Anyone know if they've improved the feel /sole any? I currently ride Fox Comp 5's. I really like the boots but they've got some holes in them and I hate wet feet. I am not quite to the point where I can justify buying some Gaerne's yet so I've narrowed my options to the Comp 5's again or the Tech 7's. Are the Tech 7's at least better than the Comp 5's? I know it's relative but just looking for opinions.

No, the Comp 5 is way better than the 7's. Tech 7 has become a slightly than better entry level boot. Tech 8's or Tech 10's are more comparable to the Comp 5 in my opinion.

tech 7's are a great boot for what they cost. great support, good comfort. Id fork out the money for these over the other boots in this price range. You can prob find a good deal for $200-250 for them too if you are patient

Tech 7's are complete garbage. Several sets for the kids all poor quality.

If Tech 7's are 200-250, you'd be crazy not to get Gaerne SG-10's at $314. The Gaerne's are so much more comfortable and definitely have enough added durability to last long enough to more than pay for the cost difference.

I got a pair of the modern day Tech 7's when they first came out. What was that like 5 years ago? The boots are still very solid. No buckle problems. I've had the soles redone once in that time and they are ready for another resole. Other than that these boots have been great. Very comfortable, plastic and leather have held up really well. I keep thinking of buying another pair of boots but a resole is way cheaper.

I was set on SG12's but then I lost a top end and therefore my boot budget. . . So I'm back in the $250 range. Rocky Mountain is closing out the 2013 Tech 7s for $225. SG10's are $380.00. I think that's pushing the envelope more than I can afford right now. I'll probably run through another pair of Comp 5's based on the feedback then hit the SG12's next.

One last question. Has anyone ever signed up at the mxsponsor.com? I signed up and got an offer from Gaerne for 30-50% off all Gaerne products for the 2014 season. After offsetting the $50 membership cost, the $380 boots become $316.00. I haven't paid the "membership" fee yet but was curious if anyone else uses this service or if it's a sham once you buy the membership.

I went boot shopping last week. Got discouraged and went home with nothing. Its extremely difficult to find the perfect fitting boot. Everything has its own unique little problem.

I bought a pair of tech 7s a year and a half ago. Ive worn holes in the side near the sole of the boot on both sides. II ride less than 15-20 times a year too. I had a pair as a kid and thought they were great but the new ones lacked quality. If i were to do it again I would have bought another pair of fox f3s or instincts

As usual, every three years I buy new SG-10s and sell the used pair on Ebay for decent $$$.
Try that with Tech 8s.

I went from Tech 8's to Gaerne SG10's and love the Gaernes. I couldn't believe how light they are and comfortable. Quite pleased. Only thing is you have to watch wear toward the ankle, but not a big deal.

GAERNE ALL THE WAY!

I've worn Alpinestars, Fox, Axo throughout the years, switched to Gaerne in 2005 and been wearing them since.

Check the link to Extreme Cycle Supply I posted above. It's even cheaper than the sponsorship offer you are talking about.

Also, you can apply for Gaerne sponsorship directly through their website and skip the middleman. They are actually very responsive and easy to deal with.

I have one pair of SG-10's that are 7 years old and another that are almost 10 yrs old still going strong on original soles. They are very durable. At $314 they are a no brainer as far as I am concerned.

Thanks man. I didn't see the link when I read your post the first time. Sounds like the SG10's are what I'm going to go with.

Thanks for the input all.

I bought a pare of the new tech 7's about three seasons ago...the boots (even the souls) have held up very well, they are VERY comfortable (for a boot without a hinged ankle), seemed to break in quickly.

My only complain (AND ITS A HUGE COMPLAINT) is that I hate the buckles. They are absolute garbage...a pain to get buckled, and then once they are buckled they are a pain to get unbuckled (especially after a 3 hour hare and hound when my forearms and hands are toast...and NOTHING is more frustrating than not being able to get your boots off after a long hot race).

I do believe they fixed the buckles on the new models (but I'm not positive) and if they have, I'd probably buy another paid...HOWEVER, for the price, the SG10's are the direction that I'd go...if it were my money.

I use hookit.com for sponsorships. There is no membership fee, and it works almost exactly the same way.

As for the 2013 Tech 7's, check the buckles (I THINK they fixed them for 2013 models, but I'm not sure).

MXSponsor.com is legit. I've been using it for years. I got a nice discount on my SG10s a couple years ago too. FWIW, I had Tech 7's once, and I wouldn't recommend them. Love the SG10's though.

Just bought Tech 10's for about $350 on closeout...

I have a pair of the 2013 model Tech 7's, I wore the Fox Comp 5 before and I find that the Tech 7 is a much better boot than my Comp 5's, More support and made much better to me, I have worn them all season, and as a matter of fact I just ordered a pair of Black ones that are on closeout .

I can do a little better than $350 shipped on the 2013 Tech 10 if they still have your size at my dealer.

SG 12s and don't look back. Like putting your foot in a cloud. Zero break in. You can get them at BTO Sports with coupon code pulpmx for 462.76 to your door. I never will compromise on gear, its your last defense.

Bought Jetts this summer and really like them. Very lite and very little break in time.

15 year advocate of alpinestars here, that being said, my next pair of boots will be sg 10 or 12s. The alpinestars quality has gone way downhill imo, and I only want a stitched welted sole due to the increased lateral protection. No way I'd wear a formed boot like a tech 10. Wish they would bring back the old eights, and add a Hinge like the 10s

SG 12s got all that. I don't want a boot either that looks like a running/skate shoe. You can have the soles replaced on the SG 12s as well.

I've never owned anything but Alpinestars boots, however they have all held up very well. I've got a set of older Tech 6's that I wear now, maybe they are about 4-5 years old. Plastic is scuffed and original sole is a little worn, but they have withstood countless moto days. I have an old set of M4's that have to be 10-12 years old by now that I use for trail riding, still in decent shape. If you take care of your boots, keep them clean and the buckles free of crud, don't leave them sitting in the garage covered in muck for weeks after a ride....they will last.

you guys kill me sometimes.. The fella is looking for a boot in a certain price range. For $300, the tech 7 is the best option. I personally prefer leather soles, and SG10's or 12's are without a doubt the best route, but that range is up against mid range "gear" manufacturer boots, fox, AXO, Answer, etc.. the best engineered and value boot is without a doubt the tech 7. Id love to buy my son a brand new 2014 ktm 65 this year, but my budget is pushing back to 10-11 65's. Are the conventional forks on the 14's better? duh. are the ergo's better on a freshly rolled scoot? of course! but he's going to get a bike that is proven more current than the kx65, and we will work with what we have. be realistic guys.

If you are on a tight budget, the Gaerne GX-1 is the best boot at the $200 price point. They are comfortable, wear like iron and made in Italy.

There is a brand new tech 7 that just came out a couple months ago that is much improved. Lower toe height, less weight, better buckles, and extremely comfortable:
