Definitely not a big deal, and rider safety should be priority number one. But I thought it was weak... They always talk about how the U.S. nationals are so much warmer, yet they never get shortened?

Good decision in my opinion. Rider safety has to be the most important thing. It's the humidity more than the heat that is the issue

When 2 riders go down for no reason within sight of the finish , and dont even have the strength to get up... after 1 race... you know you have to act.

For me , when you have guys having to clear huge obstacles like those, you really need to think of the consequences... on an old school outdoor track , its not so much an issue, you just back it down , but outdoor SX for 30 mins in 100 degrees heat and oppressive humidity.. not so clever.

Villopoto thought it was a good decision, if any of you need convincing. Just go find the after race press conference, if you're interested in hearing a rider in the events opinion.

Maybe they shouldn't go to a 3rd world country in a rain forest where its citizens cant afford indoor plumbing or clean water much less admission to a mxgp race.

So what are the Nationals like all summer?!? And it's hard for me to argue against safety, but our mx tracks are more sx influenced and I've never seen a moto get shortened. Back it down, a Gardner has to know in Texas he can't just hit it hard all day, have to pace.

Last night when they first made the decision I was a bit shocked although I thought it was probably a good idea. After the fact and having several people mention Josh Lichtle (rest in peace) I think it was the right move.
The AMA has shortened and/or canceled races for inclement weather before.

Congratulations. How many of the GP guys are from Florida? It's been freezing cold most places in Europe for the past 4 months, then they're going straight to riding in 40 degree heat and high humidity. Not a great combo

I thought RC was being a douche TBH... its great if you live in the US , and have the chance to acclimatise to riding in those conditions, but thats a luxury these guys dont have. He never did GP's , he has no idea.

It doesnt matter how fit you are , unless you can condition your body to perform in those conditions, by being there for a long while , its always a risk... 3 weeks ago the Italian nationals were run in snow.

Rider safety has to be a priority.. of course you could always not go to these places , but thats another discussion all together.

Which is a bit rich coming from a guy who often talks about the need for a riders union...

In this case the riders, teams and the FIM came together and agreed that shortening the motos was a wise idea.

I don't think it has anything to do with their conditioning. They aren't acclimated to a hot humid climate like that. We live in that shit so our bodies are used to the heat and humidity. I don't care how fit you are. If your body is not used to that its just not. Better for them to keep the riders safe.

Im also betting that between races , most of the US riders go sit in their A/C'ed motorhomes or ice baths or whatever... im not expecting Thailand is going to be littered with those.

Hey , maybe they should have left it and hope nobody died...

The should cancel Glen Helen all together.

Too dangerous.

Is there a time of year in Thailand when it's a little cooler? Maybe reschedule the event?
This is the peak of summer in Thailand.

From around May - October is rainy season, so it's a bit cooler but you also have the problem of flash flooding etc

KR has been known to and has admitted to not being acclimated to the extreme summertime temps during the US MX series.

Not everyone lives in the heat and humidity of a place like florida.

So, for those riders that dont live in those climates, how do they do it each year in the nationals?

Yet he still won the title. They're joking that European guys couldn't handle the heat in AMA nationals, but the AMA national champ is a German.

I'm opposed to this decision. I don't think the GP guys have been shoveling snow and warming themselves by the fire for the last six months. They've been testing, training and preparing in warm climates. In addition, did they ever shorten the motos at the USGP of Carlsbad when it was 100 degrees in the shade?
