Vintage Huskies are still the epitomy of beauty to me. I had a '73 125CR that was my second "real" MX bike & graduated to an '04 250CR Mag. The 125 was a slug until MAJOR work was done on the engine, and although it greatly increased horsepower...it also greatly increased unreliability, at least in my case. Still, the yellow-tank 125 always looked sexy and cool. I really would have liked to have ridden an '08 model.

I've owned a 73 250, 77 250, and a few 79/80 390s, never got my hands on a 125.

Although a couple years newer (1980) than the Classic Steel 1978 CR, I always dreamed of owning/building a 125cr with the Pro Circuit style rear fender/plate etc.. like this. Just always thought the Husky's were so trick.

BTW...Thanks for the Classic Steel Articles Tony..I really enjoy them!!

I raced a 1980 125CR and MXA did an article test on one built by PCP and I ordered a pipe from them. PCP was later known as Pro Circuit.

Really? ... Man, "PCP" Just has such a better ring to it than "Pro Circuit" I mean c'mon what was Mitch thinking?

Although had he kept the name we would've had the 2 leading aftermarket exhaust companies as:

PCP & FMF

Haha

Huge thanks! Classic Steel is one of my favorite features here. I always lusted after the Husky's in magazines as a kid. Finally acquired a 78 CR390 as restoration project a couple years back and its been sitting in my storage since... article is some motivation to get on it this coming year!

PCP back then was Pro Circuit Products so I understand why Mitch did it!

Here you go. It was a two part article. One on the 250, the other on the 125. Craig Dale rode the 125 weekly. Mitch would put new rings in it every moto and hone the cylinder. A new piston a day and split the cases during the week to keep that 125 running and competitive lol. The performance envelope was a beyond the limit of the engine and the maintenance schedules were a bit much lol. Fun times.

Compared to the Japanese lightweights, the Husky 125 was a sled.

Considered getting one in 1978, but riding it for the first time at the shop, it was immediately obvious that you would have no chance vs the yellows, reds and greens.

Flipper won a lot of amateur races on a Husky (Phil Alderton).
