"The man told the health care workers who treated him that on the day of his heart attack he had downed eight to 10 energy drinks — and that he did that on most days, according to the case report. It's possible that the man's excessive energy drink intake caused a blood clot to form that partially blocked a blood vessel near his heart, leading to the heart attack, according to the case report."

I couldn't find the part where Monster held a gun to his head...?

Wonder if this was a normal dude who just REALLY loved energy drinks, or if something is omitted, like maybe he's 600 pounds or something

I know a skinny 30 something dude that swilled Coffee, Energy Drinks, Chewed and Smoked...one day his heart took off.

He's quit smoking, backed off chew, has a Rockstar every now and then...healthy as can be...now.

I love how the article starts out with a "Healthy 26yr old man" . 8-10 Energy drinks and a pack of cigs a day for over 2 years is not healthy.

I'm 52, and I've had 1. Bought it to see what all the hoopla was all about. Drank part of it, spit the last mouthful out (sort of like an old girlfriend, but that's not the point of this thread) and dumped the rest. What people see in the stuff, is beyond me.

I drank one.....about 6yrs ago. I don't put that poison into my body. I do on the other hand support , their support....of my sport....if that makes sense. They are by far the biggest sponsor this sport has ever seen....and I appreciate it. I just don't drink their drinks.

The guy who was drinking 8 - 10 a day and then had a heart attack......I hate to be mean , but he freakin' deserved it. Anyone who is that stupid deserves to get punished in some way , shape or form.

Red Bull tastes excellent to me. I don't drink it for any reason other than that. Don't buy it too often because of the ridiculous price however.

I am sure that it was a copy and paste from some other source. Journalism is dead.

I love the low carb "blue" monsters bet 8-10 a day is insane. That's about $25.00 a day habit. Not believing it for a second. No one is that stupid.

A few fun chemistry facts to ponder:

The following are LD50 values for various common substances. LD50 stands for individual lethal dose that kills 50% of a population of test animals. The lower the number, the more toxic.

Aresnic - 15 mg/kg
Aspirin - 1500 mg/kg
Acetaminophen - 340 mg/kg
Nicotine - 230 mg/kg
Caffeine - 130 mg/kg

Translation: those energy drinks are terrible for ya

Our son brought home a case yesterday that some skater dude gave him. I was tired after work and grabbed one out of the fridge to give it a try. After seeing the label with 31grams of sugar I put it back.

Couldn't give a shit if they sponsor a sport I like, it is crap n a can.

Love me a small nearly frozen Red Bull with breakfast on the run.

Orange Monster nitrous is pretty good.

Used to drink a big ass green Monster every afternoon when we were working fifteen hour days seven days a week about ten years ago. Quit them for several months and about puked the next time I drank one. Nasty.

I know someone who fills a coffee cup half full of sugar then tops it off with coffee. Drinks that shit all day long.

A Starbucks coffee has more caffeine in it than a can of energy drink.

That is true. But caffeine is not the reason I won't drink that crap.

If you add 8 teaspoons of sugar to your cup of coffee that is the equivalent of a Monster or similar. Not to mention whatever other nasty chemicals they choose to add in.

I just take Mt Dew and dump a hand full of aluminum shavings from under my chop saw in it. Tastes the same for a third of the price.

12 oz can of Pepsi has 41 grams of sugar. I'd think any energy drink would have more than 31 grams. It's NOT the sugar that's the problem, it's all the other cr they add to "give you wings" or whatever they're claoming.

On that note.... If Monster, REDBULL and Rochstar pulled out of this sport, it would self implode. Besides sponsoring SX, Monster is responsible for several riders salaries, including Villopoto's and the Monster Kawasaki team. Chad Reed, Jeremy McGrath, the list hopes on.... Same thing with RedBull and Rockstar athletes. Not only MX/SX, but just about every racing and extreme sport in existence. It's pretty sad, but these 3 companies are soley responsible for keeping the ball rolling.

Ha, I guess it's all relative, right? Saying Monster is better for you than soda is like saying dog poop tastes better than cat poop.
