After breaking my leg 3 and a half weeks ago I've been watching a lot, and i mean A LOTLaughing of 2005-2010 ama motocross and some MXGP races, damn there have been some good racing and battles through the years!

Anyway, who out there deserved a title but never did get one? Watching the andrew short of 2007 you would of thought the title was his! But he's been so unlucky to not have one. Another rider would be Tim ferry. And over at MXGP theres guys like Desalle who should of had a title by now but has never succeeded.

Can you think of anymore that should of been a 450 champion /always came close to one or maybe came close to one before an injury?

Or even people who came close to becoming a champion in any class at all that never succeeded?

Mike Alessi is a guy who came really close in 2007. And I'm pretty sure 2009 was possible if it weren't for the knee.

Damon Bradshaw, really thought he would have had more titles before he retired.

Tedesco won 2 250 west titles in a row and the 250 outdoor title but never got a 450 title.
Sebastian Tortellini and Ezra Lusk didn't win any titles that I know of but were both extremely fast and won races bearing some of the best ever straight up.
Josh Grant has got to be up there as one of the fast guys who can win any day, especially in the 25ps but never quite got a title.
The list could go on and on, so many fast talented guys but there's only so many championship trophies.

As much as I am not much of a fan, I am really surprised Alessi doesn't have one.

That being said, KDub tops the list.

Too many good guys racing in the wrong time period! Wink

You should re-read the only sentence in the OPs third paragraph..........

Damon Huffman deserves honorable mention. He had high expectations coming off of 125s.

Like a couple others I would say Alessi. Incredible talent and devotion to the sport. It's a shame that in those years that he was top 3 in the country it never worked out for him to win a title

I don't think there was anyone more deserving of a title and had it taken away by a sliced brake pipe of all things. The man who stopped Everts perfect season with a single moto win.

Gotta X2 this. I think Mike would've got a title had he been in a different situation. He had the speed no question about it.

He was just out of reach of that switch in 2005. Damn Matt Walker.

But my picks are Yogi. He had the speed, but not the consistency. Where Huffman was to hesitant. Yogi was to wild.

Bradshaw. Feel like JS suffered a bit Damon syndrome from the beating his body and mind took from RC. Bradshaw just got his from Stanton and Bayle.

Windham would be a multiple time champion if not for RC I believe. He never won an Outdoor Title. Amazes me.

And Pourcel got robbed of those outdoor 250F titles two years in a row. That was harsh.

Have to mention Josh Hansen, tied for the East Coast Lites Championship in 2005, but it went to Langston in the 2nd tie breaker I think.

RR won the FIM World Supercross championship (like Heath Voss) in 1998. Trust me, I understand that this as a stretch, but true nonetheless. Remember, Im just the messenger.

Some have argued that he was never the same after breaking his leg. Very talented and one of the few riders in 96 to put pressure on Jeremy.

I think it mostly comes down to between Kevin Windham and Mike Alessi. It's easy to forget how many times Mike wound up 2nd in the Nationals - he was 2nd in 05, 06, I think in the top 3 in 07, 2nd in 08, the favourite at one point in 09 before injuring his knee, and finally 2nd again in 2012. With Kevin it was even more so with a string of top 3 and 2nd place title runs indoors and out (of course by no means a bad career for either rider, quite the opposite).

On the GP side.... Kurt Nicoll.

Marnicq Bervoets in GP's.

Finished 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 4th, 4th, 5th, 5th and 5th in GP's. (mind you, these are not race finishes,
but his final position in the points standings).

8 out 11 of these seasons were in the premier class at the time (250cc).

In 1996 he lost the title to Everts by 9 points (390 to 381 pts).
