Two Strokes are Dead*

* Except in Canada, where Kavin Benoit just took home the MX2 championship on a KTM 250SX.

Anyone have some video of the Walton MX round?

i think that isnt fair.... two strokes make too much HP per CC and there is NO possible way for a 4 stroke to be competitive against them. 4 Strokes are too complex, heavier, cost more, harder to work on and there fore i believe they should only allow half the CC's of a 2 stroke to compete against a 4 joke... i mean 4 stroke!

its only fair WhistlingWhistlingWhistlingTongueTongueTongue

HP wise, the 250 4 strokes are catching up, aren't they?

Congrats to Benoit on the championship but that'll probably put the nail in the coffin of any chances of ever having an equal displacement rule in pro racing here in the US. Wink

If there ever was one...

every year more, yes. but i think they are still in the 37-40'ish range? 2T makes way more than that. of course the 4T has a wider powerband, but you already know this.
i dont think a 4T will ever get close power per cc of a 2T without being a timebomb.

I don't get that. It's ok to race 250 two stroke with 250 four strokes as long as you don't win with that... Did Benoit win every race with the two stroke?

When people brag about a 250 2 stroke winning the MX2 title its like someone bragging that they beat a 250f on there ktm or husky 350. The 250 2 stroke is way more powerful especially with BB4 building ur motors like they do for benoit.

He was still winning on the 250F when he rode one at the start of the season.

The bike didnt have much to do with it, Kaven is just an amazing rider and is super talented.

Its always cool to see a 2 stroke winning though.

Yeah he ran both depending on the track, pretty cool though , would be a nice rule to allow them in the US. I think you would only get the privateers on them that cant spend big bucks on race engines

Logic dictates the displacement should be equal. Congrats Kavin.

The KTM 250f makes around 42 at peak I think and the Yamaha and Kawi around the 40 mark, not certain but the 250 SX makes 48-49 at peak? Where as the YZ 250 is around 46-47, not sure what the figures are on their tuned motors though, Chad Watts said they had RC's CR running at 60 HP at one point!

i'm hoping to put my 300SX on a local dyno here soon and get some real world #'s. not many dyno charts out there for the 2T's compared to the 4's.
i'd love to see some of the old tuned to the absolute max 2 strokes on a dyno. what about wards 500?!

But but but the 4T is easier to ride faster so why do people whine over a few hp?

You should be comparing lap times not the hp numbers

If it's such an advantage yet is still allowed, why doesn't everyone do it?

Yea, marinade on that one for a minute..

He rode a 250 sxf(thumper) out west on the dry hard pack tracks and a 250 sx(2 smoker) on the eastern sand tracks, then still rode the 2 smoker on the 2 eastern hard tracks(Riverglade and Walton)
Pretty unique actually.....

makes it even more of a head scratcher that parents are dumb enough to throw 95 lb. Junior on a modded 250f and think that's the bike he should ride.

logic? there is none.

Motoconcepts' chances of winning a championship are dead, except in Canada where they...oops.
