TTR 110 Issue

Hey Guys,

I use a 2015 yamaha ttr 110 as a pit bike. I have been having issues with the rear tire constantly going flat. I'll change the tube and sometimes it will last 2 weeks and sometimes it will last 5 minutes. When I first got it it lasted like a year before I got my first flat, now its like every other time I ride it. What could be causing this?

I would have posted this in the Tech Help/Race Shop section but it looks like it got hacked or something.

If it doesn't have a rim lock, put one on it. It might have something inside the tire causing it to go flat.

Run your hand through the inside of your tire might be a thorn or something in there

definitely check the tire for thorns or anything small sticking through the tire. Also, I know it's obvious, but check the tire pressure before you ride it every time. Check to make sure there isn't a spoke sticking out of the nipple a bit as well.

Yeah, sometimes a spoke, or the rim itself has a bit of a sharp spot. Take tire all way off, run hand inside all the way around. Be careful, you can cut yourself.

All of the above. Had a similar problem on our KLX110 that saw adult usage. Had both a sharp edge inside AND tore valve stems due to rotation.

Run tire pressure at 25-30 PSI if you are riding it aggressively. No rim lock needed.

When changing the tube I've noticed a lot of black dust inside the tire where it seems like there is a lot of friction taking place. Think thats a sign of rotation?

I had the same issue with a CRF 70. It was a rim lock deal.

Did you have to drill a hole in the rim for it? The only hole my rim has is for the valve stem
Ditch the rim lock.

My brothers, dad, and I have 4 KLX 110Ls. When I first got them we got like 7-8 flats the first few weeks, between 3 bikes. We got rim locks, but it didn't really help. The only thing that has really fixed the problem is keeping the PSI above 25. Yes, it makes it a little easier to slide out, but beats messing with a 12" rear wheel.

Yes. Just bought a regular rim lock, then sized it up to the proper drill bit and drilled it out at about 1/2 way across from the valve stem. It was a pretty easy deal and never had a problem after that.

I guess you can go with a high psi instead. Maybe try that first and go this route if it keeps happening.

The black dust is likely a function of relative movement between the tire and tube- squishing and rolling and stuff but not necessarily rotation. Could be, but rotation will result in a flat pretty quick due to stem tear. Make sure your nipple tops are taped off to prevent dirt/water entry. (That sounds dirty, but it's not.)

When looking at the flat tubes, what do the holes look like that caused the leak?

There is usually no direct puncture hole like it was a thorn. You usually have to find the leak and really stretch the tube to see the hole. I know I've had a couple in the general area of the valve stem, but not directly around where the valve stem attaches to the tube.

I would have kept better track of what was happening when this started if I knew I was going to be dealing with this haha
