Hi guys, I want a 2 stroke bike to race in 2 stroke races (the CR500 is just for VMX - steel frame)...I really want a Husky but cant make up my mind between a 250 or 300, the bike will be used for MX only....has anyone ridden the two bikes and are placed to let me know what the pros and cons are between the two? And has anyone had any bad things happen to either bikes...it will be a 2017 model so I dont care of previous problems prior to 2017.

thanks!!

If you are going MX only I would grab the 250. My friend has a 2017 300XC (Same as the TX300) and it is truly an amazing bike. Tractor like power and still pretty snappy. Incredible in the woods, feels like it has traction control. But I feel like the 250 revs a bit better and is more suited to the track. The 300's come with the 18" wheel which I do not think is good for moto....although that can be changed fairly easy. He actually has his plated and rides it to work.....and the track.

TX300 also has an extra gear, an electric start, larger tank, and about a $1,300 more msrp. Great bike for off-road, and of course, can do moto too. You can always take the TC250 up to a 300 for less than a $1,000 (which still puts you less than the TX300 OTD). Seems like the TC250's the best choice for what you'd be using it for.

I have a 2017 TC250 and love it. You could always put the 300cc kit on the TC250 once it needs a top end rebuild. You can buy it right from Husky.

Awesome, thanks! Smile Yeh the 300cc kit might be tempting, understanding as comments by bob above that it will be a lot torquier and perhaps a tad less revving due to larger bore?

We run the TM's have a 300MX , a 300 SMX and a 330SMX .. the 300 MX is great, less aggressive, than a 250, and for a Vet like me, its ideal, fast as a 450 in a straight line, even with my 220 pounds on it, and real easy to ride, the SMX is ported by Eric Gorr with full Pro Circuit, and VHM head bigger carb and some other tweaks, and a flywheel weight, and it is as good as a good 450 Husky on the tarmac, the 330 is a bit lazy, and lacks the top end of the 300.

I think , from talking to guys who run EMX 300, that the 250 suits 250f guys, whereas the 300 is better with riders that have a bit of finesse, and use the mid range,

Husky 300 Kit is supposed to be good , and the bikes look sweet, a lot less risky than a TM , which are rare as a rare thing in the US

Get a 250 if u like to rev, as the 300 has a very signoff feel coming off of four stroke..If u want it to have torque more like a 450 get a 300. I think the 300 is pretty well signed off around 8000 rpm whereas a well setup 250 will pull to 9500 or even 10000 rpm. My impression of 300 is all low mid, amazing low mid, no top really esp overrev. 250 feels faster, more four stroke like due to overrev abundance.

I wouldn't want to trade my TC250 against a TX300. Have tried the TX several times.
It's a great bike but all the details that are leaning towards Enduro/Cross Country (transmission, bigger tank, etc) just hinder you on a motocross track.

But please ride the bike a couple of hours before deciding to put a 300 kit on it. I absolutely love the motor as it comes

I personally like the bike more as a 250 then a 300 for the same reasons people have stated. Less overev and loses some of its snappy 2 stroke characteristic. However, if your a vet and want to race against 450's a TC250 with 300 kit and a flywheel weight transforms that bike into a torque monster and if you do it right like digger did to his 300 SX then you have a fire breathing animal of a bike. He had no problem getting holeshots against 450's. Id say ride it as a 250 and see what you think. That 17 motor has potential to be way better then it is delivered stock. If i bought one id immediately take that mikuni off and put a 38mm keihn carb off a 16 125/150 with the 16 throttle housing and cable, pipe and silencer of your choosing, drill some holes in the left side pannel, cut out the battery tray located in the airbox for even more air flow and play with gearing go to 49t rear sprocket and go 2 turns out on the powervalve adjustment. Good luck on the purchase !

Lol yes of course, well you would know from other posts of mine that actually I have said they are great bikes so will come as no surprise that I brought one. I guess other comments of mine might give perception of a differing view lol

He didn’t ask between a tc 250 and a tx 300. He asked between a tc 250 and a tc 300 so I’m assuming he wants a tc with the 300 kit. I’ve ridden tx and xc 300’s for years and I can tell you a tc 300 is a beast to ride compared to a tx or xc. A tc 300 is stupid fast like 500 power. I spent 2 days on it and hated every minute, it wore me out. I’d say if your riding mostly moto and you want to ride some woods, the ktm xc line is perfect for that. Ya the tx 300 is like the xc but it comes with shitty brakes in comparison to the ktm so I would go that route.

Joke of the day, 500 power lol funny guy

300 has a little bit more torq compared to a 250 but won't last a season a 300 kit. They just sell it or it breaks.
Just trowing money away. But it's the holy grail for the white and orange lovers. The mx world need those people.

Have an '18 TC250, my brother had SX250 with the full SX300 kit, ignition, etc....I can attest the 300 is a nuclear missle, hit like Mike Tyson and Ali combined, wicked scary for us mere mortals....I'll put it like this...Marty Smith came in to do a school and we had the 300 for him and even he said El Paso

get the TC250, its great bike and you can tame it or make it a fire breathing monster. 450 is easier to ride but the 250 is just more fun to me and it feels like a mini bike compared to the 450. Disclaimer, I only race vintage mx these days but practice on the modern bikes with buds

The 2017+ TC250 is a fantastic bike. I absolutely love mine and just sharing a build to help you with some ideas for yours. Mine is MX only, and setup for rideability (like using the 'mellow' engine map). I also found a nice improvement over power delivery with the addition of a pipe & silencer. This bike doesn't lack beans, tracts well, and is a joy to ride.

Enjoy!

I ride 125's and 150's so naturally I like the 250 better. It's got plenty of grunt for me and I can actually give it some throttle sometimes. A 300 is a superb off-road weapon, but I still like the 250 better, esp in long races and tight twisty stuff. For moto, I'd take the 250 instantly. But if you got a 300 we could still be friends.

Of course, I like my 150 just fine, too.

I tossed a few things at my 18300xc. I run the red spring, smart carb, vforce 4 and a RK tek head. These mods turn the 300 into a absolute fire breather! It revs and still has monster low end. I'm at 86hrs.... tires and a top end is all I've done.
To be fair my only comparison is to a bone stock 19 250sx that I ran a couple of 30 minute moto's on. I liked the power on the 300 better and it is surprisingly good at the track.

I really like it. I bought the pipe + silencer off of Jeffro here on Vital (very lightly used, like new) and bolted it on late summer 2019. So I rode the stock pipe + silencer quite a bit. I immediately noticed the difference, and overall felt like a big improvement. Bike just felt stronger and smoother throughout the mid into the top, with more over rev.

Didn't really feel any negatives. A solid plus for me across the board. Plus plus on the looks also, super trick.

Please note I also have Lectron, V4 reeds, and run it in the 'mild' map, which all ultimately work together with the pipe + silencer.

Cheers.

Pretty easy to install and should come from Lectron fully setup. I was one of the '2017+ generation' guinea pigs... especially for MX use.. so I had to send mine back after the first few rides because they didn't have the 'factory setup' dialed in yet.

Hardest part of swapping to a Lectron is just pulling everything off and installing the Domino throttle assembly, which isn't that hard.

Nice looking ride. Have a good one!

Sorry forgot to mention. The Lectron is wider than the OEM carb, so it's a little trickier to fit it into the engine intake and airbox boot space. It slightly tweaks the airbox boot also. Nothing detrimental, just part of fitting the wider carb body into that 'space'.
