The pipe is Ti, or just the silencer?

only Ti 2 stroke pipe ive seen FMF do is the one they did for the KTM 500 steel frame of the the owners. i called to ask about it since i'm doing one on my 500AF and they were kind of an ass about giving any kind of tips on fab, ect. like its some kind of top secret technology or something. Found my own fab guy and will be making my own that will make the fmf look like a joke.

FMF built one for Travis Pastrana's X games bike a few years ago.

The front stinger portion is likely titanium as well since it is titanium on their standard off-the-shelf Titanium-2 silencers that they sell.

So basically, it looks like they took a standard titanium-2 silencer and replaced the aluminum body with a titanium one. In other words, the only part not titanium on that muffler is likely the steel perforated core.

yep, thats the easy parts to make, similar to the Ti 4T silencers they already do. looks like they just had to form a end cap. i dont think the Ti silencers usually come with those do they?

better shielding from the gas lens on the pic i posted. technically as long as there is no color besides silver to straw in the actual weld in Ti it will pass.
it can have color around it, in the HAZ (heat affected zone). and on something not structurally critical like that, they probably used a small lens to get a lot of color in there for cosmetic reasons. still is an amazing weld.
you can also color Ti via electricity anodizing like i did on these wheel spacers i made:
http://transfer.fleeangrybear.com/KX500AF/TiAnoVert.jpg
or with heat from a mapp gas torch like a lot of knifemakers do.

also reason those welds in the first picture are so discolored because they are not welds, those pipes are brazed with no sheilding gas on the actual weld. and thus pull a lot of oxygen in and oxidize/discolor the metal.

Those are off the shelf exhaust components....The can of the Ti 2 silencer is anoed aluminum.

Hand made....LOL yeah. Normal stampings and then welded together in a jig. Same as production pipes.

The FMF manufacturing facility is moderately automated in regards to it's stamping and forming process.

Hand made could easily mean they had to manually insert a titanium blank into the press for forming. Not a big deal, but when you are interrupting an automated production run, you have to label it as some sort of special project. "Hand-made" sounds legit...

Blackberry shot of FMF's 199 pound 300cc KTM in the final stages of the build from back in 2009. FMF also utilized Nuetech TUBLISS to help get under the magic 200 pound target. Titanium pipe natch. Titanium silencer natch.

FMF used to make a full Ti shorty silencer, I had one and they were super light.

Not sure of thats a full Ti silencer.

If titanium turns blue or black when welded it is most likely junk that was welded wrong. Should stay almost the oruginal color minus some lights discoloration from the haz area as well as the starts/stops. Should always be purged or welded in a chamber
