So what's the deal with MX'ers and the decal fetish? I guess motor heads in general have decals plastered everything.

Why do we do this?

Some of the elder statesmen will get the thread title.

Because they're cool and signify different era's in our sport. I have some I won't apply on anything or part with.

Damn that Surf sticker is cool!

I have two shoe boxes of stickers in my hallway closet. I should dig em out one day and see what I have.

If you never stuck 'em you couldn't have the coolest ceiling fan that ever made a breeze. That's pretty sweet.

I've always thought a clean sticker less bike always looked better than one with stickers all over it. Even when I bought a pipe, or bars, or whatever, I wouldn't put them on my bike. If I wasn't sponsored by them, it didn't seem right giving anyone free advertising.

As a kid I would go the local shops and ask for stickers, they would kindly oblige.
My 1974 Elsinore had stickers for parts that were never on the bike.
My school locker was also covered in stickers. 14 year old mot dork
at it's finest. I look at my garage fridge and wonder if I have grown up?

Next to road cyclists, this sport advertises for everyone for free from people they get nothing from.
Road cyclists are by far the worst poseurs. Around here, they are all on the postal service team.

Every since I moved to Colorado and got into snowboarding - I thought moto guys liked stickers, but now I know that boarders like stickers just as much, if not more. It's all in good fun tho.

I'm going to make a snowboard bench for the backyard and sticker it up like you wouldn't believe.

Something like dis, but full of moto stickers...

To be in the club, and show others what club they're in.

To remember.

To make things look cool.

To support those who support the sport.

To satisfy an obsessive compulsive hankering.

Except Suzuki? I can tell you ride a Zuke because of your pic. Are you sponsored by factory Suzuki? You need to change all the fenders to a diff color & grind off all the Suzuki emblems off the motor, frame, oh and don't forget the tires. The names of the company is on you side walls. You'' need to grind those off to, otherwise that's free advertisement. I guess you can't wear any gear either because the name of the company would be on everything.

"Even when I bought a pipe, or bars, or whatever, I wouldn't put them on my bike"

So you support these companies by buying their parts, but you don't wanna advertise for them so you don't even put them on your bike? Do they just sit in the garage so NO ONE will see them? LaughingLaughingLaughing

Very nice braap - question is, do you remember which sticker was the very first to end up on the tool box and cabinet?

My mate emailed a whole lot of MX company's asking for free stickers and about 3/4s of them supplied the stickers for absolutely free, postage and everything! One night when I'm bored sh*tless I'll do the same, I recommend you fellas should too.

Just a small selection of the sticker I have adorning old filing cabinets in garage.

What an awesome post.

They are like tatoos for bikes and gear that have special meaning to the people who had/have them.

Check out this trip down memory lane with the CR500 and watch how the decals change through the years and the memories they bring back. Powerful.

Stickers used to be free and by sticking them on stuff, they identify you as different from the crowd. Now days moto-stickers just identify your van/trailer as worthy of stealing.

Nope, I just like the look of a clean appearing bike. Some get it, some don't.

Only problem with that theory is if you bought a product from a company YOU were paying THEM to advertise even if you didn't put the sticker on your bike.

Right, so I pay for the product, which funds their advertising and provides them with enough cash flow to pay contingency to others (not that their sponsored riders don't deserve it), AND I get to provide additional advertising about their product for free just because the stickers look cool. If something I buy works well, they will get their free word of mouth advertising, I just don't like a bike with fifty stickers all over it. I used to call some of those guys the wanna be racers. No offense to those who like tons of stickers, just not my cup of tea.

I love me some stickers, but I try to keep my bike clean and simple. I like collecting rider decals.

I've heard if you send a S.A.S.E to vitalmx that they will send you a nice sticker pack. I've only tried it once but was pleasantly surprised.

Engine ice will do the same.
