Ten times world champion Stefan Everts is in the intensive care department. The former motocross rider rode the 4 hours of Lubumbashi in Congo last month, a local charity race that builds schools. He got malaria during that trip. For the time being, the doctors have difficulties controlling the disease.
At the beginning of this week, 46-year-old Everts was admitted with urgency to the hospital in Hasselt. He had contracted malaria during his trip. The doctors did not have the disease immediately under control and so Everts was transferred to the University Hospital in Leuven. He would be kept in an artificial coma.
The exact severity of his condition is not known. The family asks to leave them in peace so that they can overcome this disease together with Everts.

Prayers for Stefan and his family.
Of course I would hate to take on a salt water crocodile with a can of fly spry.
Some of my colleagues have contracted Malaria, and now have to be ultra careful as a second dose is much worse.
Another fun fact: The world is apparently getting close to controlling Malaria with vaccine (I think).
Due economic and agricultural issues in Africa, many the 10’s of 1000’s of people saved will starve to death.
Unintended consequences.
Hopeing for the best for Stephan.
Although I have no medical knowledge, I’d expect the best now he’s being looked after in a modern facility.
Certainly my fingers are crossed.
