5/17/2008 2:10 AM One of the athletes spotlighted is Donny Robinson. Little bitty guy, but man can he f**king shred the gnar on a BMX bike.

5/17/2008 3:08 AM If the Olympics does the same thing for BMX that it did for mountain biking (I went to Atlanta when mountain bikes were included for the first time), it makes the athletes and the industry suffer temporary insanity...and then it returns again four years later.

5/17/2008 9:53 AM My daughter was a factory BMXer before she "retired".She was ranked as high as NAG (national age group) 3 before. Her goal was to be on the Olympic team but went through a serious case of burn out at 11. We were flying home from Reno one time and she told me she didnt want to race anymore. She has tons of talent on 2 wheels but has no desire to race again. I have a stack of BMX mags with her in it them, ads and write ups stuff like that.
She still has one trick bike, it weighs in a a hefty 9 lbs all aluminum, carbon fiber and Ti. |

Ha that so true. The Olympics have drug testing but the ABA doesnt, you would be suprised how many top pros suddenly "lost weight " from dieting getting ready for the qualifiers.

5/17/2008 10:07 AM We are racing BMX today, Joey is starting to really think like a racer. Up until now he would just ride around aout there, this year all of a sudden he is setting up passes and actually thinking about what he is doing on the track. He may have some potential. He finished 4th in his class in the State Championship Series last year. He is superpumped because he can now run the #4 like his hero RC.
I race in the Cruiser Class, I don't take it too seriously. Just out there for fun. |

5/17/2008 10:47 AM BMX was cool, but I suffered major burnout doing all the ABA nat's. I can't wait to see more than 60% of the AA pro's fail an AAS test. Donny Robinson used to race my class way back when, he's a fast lil shit when he was riding for Powerlite (Big E anyone??)

5/17/2008 1:39 PM I did BMX a little bit as a kid but I was never very good, and my parents yanked me out cause it was too dangerous. (The story of my life..) It's very cool that they're adding it to the Olympics.

5/17/2008 2:00 PM About two weeks ago they had a BMX Olympic preview on the Today show.
Had Ariel Martin, Kyle Bennet and Donny Robinson. it went pretty good except they kept hammering home how much they have been hurt. Fly got the most out of it with all the people in the studio and riders wearing Fly gear. Was that Friday's edition of USA Today Chuck ? |

Never saw Bubba Harris' name mentioned though, is he gonna try to qualify? I think him and Bennett would be the top 2 choices, IMO. "I wanna learn how to blow shit up with my mind!" |

5/17/2008 2:37 PM Pretty dead around here. Did Bubba Harris recover from his foot injury? He was born for this event.
"He can’t think he’s going to pull a move like that on the sixth lap of the final and then not get anything back later on down the road."

So how is the BMX scene overall? Still growing or???? in colorado the racing scene is dying off. we had both an ABA and an NBL series running 5-6 tracks each, now im not sure if theres more than 6 tracks running period. The last bmx race i went to was an ABA state qualifier i dropped in on and the turn out was decent, probably 100 riders, but i think that may be the only real series thats running now.

Bubba was hurt for most of the qaulifing events. Bennett is in and Donnie Robinson is second in points and unless he gets hurt he will be in. If the US is top qualifeir they will get a 3rd person on the team that the coaches pick, and Bubba will probably be the pick since he is going the fastest right now.

Bubba has some bad injuries he's fighting, he is going to try and be at the Trials in Chula Vista if the IOC and WADA approve the Dr's treatment he is trying to get and he feels good enough.
