Headed out to the left coast. Wife has meeting for a couple of days and I am flying out to meet up. We are going to kick around LA and rock down the coast to San Diego before heading back up to LA. Going to be there about 6 days.

Things we must see? Things we must do?

Pros:

She loves beer. So, Stone brewing is a must, as well as just about other beer bar and brewery we can find.
She loves In n' Out burger and Mexican food. To balance the beer, burgers and Mexican, both of us are fitness nuts: Hiking/Mountain Biking would be awesome. We will pack running and athletic gear.

She wants to buy some Birdwell shorts why we were out there.

Troy Lee Store(s)?

Cool surf shops? (Both of us are beach junkies trapped in the midwest)

No real agenda

Cons:

She doesn't want to go to the Peterson Automotive Museum. (although we will be stopping by Pro Circuit)

Lay it on me guys!

Much Appreciated!

Ballast point in San Diego should be on your list for beer and good food. Lots of good trails for hiking and biking in laguna canyon area, and it's pretty much on the beach. Just up the road from there is Corporate Kawi in foothill ranch and their museum is full of cool bikes to check out. Tons of other good stuff out here, just a few that came to mind.

If you are going to hit up PC, hit up Troy Lee up there as well. Also, depending on the day, Stone can get pretty crazy so maybe call ahead and consider hitting up another (like Ballast Point mentioned) or one of the trillion others. Ballast Point opened up a cool spot in Little Italy here in San Diego, it's pretty big and has a cool outdoor section as well.
I'm not up on the surf shops so well but have stopped in a cool one in La Jolla, if I remember the name I'll post it.

Never understood why somebody go to SoCal just to eat in In and Out Burger. Do yourself favor, skip in and out go to Fatburger, much much better. Pro circuit Troy Lee and the Kawasaki Museum are all A plus things to go look at.

if you want a surf shop in San Diego, Mission surf, they have the best lineup of apparel if that's what you're wanting to look at.

Pay attention as you're traveling south on "the" 15. The kawasaki test track is right off the highway. The address is easy to find with a quick google.

The red velvet beer at ballast point is amazing. Food isn't that great though.

If you want to watch some moto then head to Pala. There are always some fast guys out there putting on a show and it's pretty close to "the" 15.

There is a whole lot of hiking out here too. Monserate mountain is a nice 3 mile hike that we visit a lot. Its about an hour north of San Diego, its near Pala.

Edit* traffic is a nightmare going north from San Diego to the LA area in the morning. I hope your flight out isn't early. It's a parking lot from early in the morning until the cows come home.

There is a shop in San Clemente called "trestles surf outlet". A lot of my friends from out of town check it out when they are visiting. You should be able to pick up a fresh bro kit it at a good price!

Where is the Kawasaki Museum? I'll be in LA visiting family in June and would like to see that.

When headed down to SD or back up to LA take the PCH and you will find all of what you are looking for at just about every town food, surf shop and beach related activities. If you really want to see "beach life" stop in HB at the pier and there is always lots going on around there and you can grab Sanchos Tacos while there. I personally like riding the boardwalk in Newport and if the conditions are right be sure to check out the Wedge on the south end. (Shallow big ass wave). Lots to see in Laguna as well and there is a Troy Lee Shop there (boutique). Easy drive up to the Top of the World overview from there which will also put you at some trails to hike. Not sure if it's still there as it's been a while since I have been down to SD but some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten was at Café Coyote in Old Town. Keep in mind that I am not from California but I do get out to all of the areas above a few times a year.

Additional tid bit of info is that I will be moving to more than likely Corona in the next few months and be looking for people to ride with on the regs.

Ditto w/UpTiTe, check out the old 'Bob's", now just "Mission surf" shop, skip the in and out, and grab some fish tacos from one of many decent beach eateries (maybe google "DDD" for some hot spots on the food channel0. If you're trolling between SanDiego and l.A., the only limitations is you and your time! Enjoy Smile

If you're going to Stone Brewing, I'd recommend going to the one at Liberty Station. It's an old barracks transformed into a really cool market with a lot of unique eateries/shops.

Encinitas/Carlsbad are fun with lots of surf shops as well. You can also find some running paths along the lagoon area between the two towns.

I did a rental kayak in La Jolla cove and had a really fun time. Lots of seals around the cove and I even had one within arms reach curiously checking me out for like 5 minutes.

Walking along Santa Monica and Venice Beach is interesting.

Chaparral is cool just because of how big the shop is. Location is kind of sketchy and prices are high on everything though.

Traffic SUCKS almost everywhere and at every time, especially in LA.

Hodads sucks (just my opinion haha), best burger in SD is Rockys Crown Pub. If you like little italian cafe type places Pappalecco has awesome pizza.

Growing up in central Ohio and coming from Columbus myself and now living in San Diego for 4 years, you'll love it. I personally hate it in LA. But It's good to stop in Escondido to see Stone. But there are COUNTLESS breweries in San Diego. Ballast Point in Miramar/Little Italy is also nice! Mike Hess in North Park, Mission brewery in Old Town just to name some of my favorites. As for hiking/mountain biking. I recommend mission trails in Claremont, possibly Ted Williams in Poway. Hit up OB, PB, and La jolla and you've seen the beach towns! Cheers!

In n Out is great, I pay rent at my local and they just let me come and eat.

Have safe travels down here. The traffic is miserable from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and motorcyclists will lane split at 40mph right next to you. Check your mirrors often! The sunsets are rad on the beach. I suggest checking out the Venice bordwalk as there is usually a plethora of interesting things to see. Malibu kinda sucks to be honest.

Edit: Pieology for pizza. Don't sleep on this.

This is very close to the "Rock Store" On Mulholland. If you plan on going to Malibu its not very far from there in the canyon. Which is also a killer drive !

Not a tourist trap. Awesome place !

You're welcome !

Try these places for food and fun:

Malibu, great local food spot: http://www.malibuseafood.com

South Bay (by LAX - go to the one on Broadway, industrial neighborhood, you wouldn't expect a food place there): http://eataliangroup.com

Weekend only ~ great spot for street bikes and sports cars: https://www.newcombsranch.com

Saturday early AM in Orange County (Aliso Viejo is better IMO): http://www.orangecoast.com/best-of/best-cars-coffee-successors/

Much Appreciated!

Sign up early for the tour at Escondido Stone, $3 bucks and you get a tasting glass and 4 beer samples. Don't bother eating there, 3 trips and 3 different entrees confirmed this.
Pro Circuit is close to Troy Lee so definitely go to both. Also skip chapparral and go to Malcolm Smiths, it's close as well in Riverside and has a museam upstairs worth checking out including his personal bikes.
