No excuses for Mikey now.

He's got the 450, he's in his enviroment, backed by a powerhouse manufacturer and manager. He's healthy,
Alessi Sr. is out of the picture, and he should be well rested and in shape.

sho time for Mike.

Mike Alessi is going to be very good. The 350 never held him back. He lost his confidence last yr and what little edge he had on the competition also went out the window. Mike needs a result more than any big name rider on the gate today.

IMO Mike will win a moto today.

he also just wanted to survive the sx season....my only concern for hangtown is if there's any lingering effects from the LVSX getoff.

Every time we've seen a 350 holeshot in the US it's been on shorter start straight, and/ or tight first turn. He wont be able to out brake everyone on the 450 but the only way the 350 can do it is if all the 450's are trying to get slowed down for a tight first turn.

What will we say when Short doesn't get the starts he used to get on the 450 either?

There's quite a bit of a difference in competition this year. That's a fact, not an excuse.

Mike holeshot Hangtown last year on the 350 at least once didn't he?
5/21/2011 7:41am
If Mike gets the holeshot and leads for while, it will get his confidence back. If he finishes on the box he will be a force in the championship. If he falls off the pace and out of the top 10 it will crush him and change his season. This first race sets the pace of his future.......I will be cheering for him and hope he pulls it off...........

I guess we'll see. On a 450 Short could holeshot from a bad gate, don't see it happening on a 350 unless you just can't carry that much speed into the turn on a 450. If you look at the starts the 350's have had, that's how they've done it, not a bad thing but to make up for all the disadvantage you would need everything to go your way like RV@Budds.

Shorty holeshot the best riders in the world twice at the MXDN last year. And by a big margin both times.

Alessi could win the whole enchilada, and should definitely be considered in the mix with the other big boys.

Totally agree. He was holeshotting 450's the end of the supercross season. The baddest triggerfinger on the gate is back, he made it through the supercross season without any serious injuries and he's on the 450. He is gonna be a force all season.

I was going by what Ricky Carmichael said but what's he know.

I really hope his crash doesn't take him out of the entire series.

read your second statement again...

These guys, ALL OF THEM are freakin mental cases, if they are winning they cant be stopped, if they are top 5 they will consistantly be top 5, etc, etc. Why did RC have his competition battling for 2nd place? They didnt BELIEVE they could beat him. Mental strength is just as important as conditioning in motocross. Where you believe you will be is where you will be.
