So yesterday I had a rough day. And gotten taken out big time . Long story short I got a posterior dislocation. Very uncommon Basicly my shoulder went out the back looking for rehab advise . Also dislocated my elbow they had to put me out to reset everything Very sore today
I've done both of mine multiple times. Without surgery if you don't put it out again it will take 3 years to be tight again.
OR, stretch the shit out of it now, and it will be nice and loose, and more susceptible to future dislocations.

It has sucked big time. I'm pretty old, and I jacked my right shoulder bad by breaking the fall.
I can't do pushups. I can barely do any curls, or lifts. So, now I'm riding but can't do anything to strengthen it. I've lost some range of motion, and forget about sleeping on my right side. The ache it brings on wakes me up everytime.
This injury is really bothering me, and I don't know how long for it to get better.
I have not gone to a Dr.
Had a recurring blow out on my left shoulder that ended my "career" lol in the early 80's. Had it repaired in '92 and it's been great since.ymmv
I have recently went down hard on my left arm/shoulder and ruptured my rotator cuff pretty bad been out for two months now and still having difficulty raising my arm above shoulder level without pain .Probably another 2 months to get back to right but i'm 59 so i expect it to heal slower just trying to use it more everyday and do the exercises the doc prescribed.
I have a good Chiropractor who also does Acupuncture/Acupressure, Electrical Stimulation, Ultrasound, and Muscle and Joint therapies so he is bringing me along pretty quickly.
Find a good one if you don't have one already who doe's these practices and you will heal much faster.
Every MX rider should have a good Chiropractor in their program.
I had 6 anterior dislocations and eventually got the surgery to correct the joint (it was getting so loose that it came out a few times without even crashing.) After my surgery and rehab it's never come out again.
These are not the best videos, but this is some of what I've been doing everyday for the last 6 months.
Shoulder Strech
Shoulder Exercise 1
Shoulder Exercise 2
Like these other guys said, the strong you make your shoulder and the tighter, the less risk of a second episode.

I've had both shoulders done one in 2008 the other side in January this year. In 08 mine too was a posterior dislocation and the dr at er kept trying multiple times to pop it in. By the time I went in for surgery my labrum was destroyed and NOT repairable . MRI did not show destroyed labrum only when doc got in there he saw it. I was out for almost 2 years until shoulder got good enough to ride and race again BUT it is weak, there is nothing I can do about it
I am also only 26, so if you are older definitely get the surgery as it may be an even longer recovery time.
How did the recovery go? Still riding? I just got my shoulder jacked up like two days ago. Honestly concerned it's going to affect my riding.
I dislocated one at a race and took 2-3 months off to get the strength back and it to feel tight. Dislocated the other one years later playing softball. I got advice from my orthopedic doctor on how to tape it up and ran a half marathon two weeks later. Dislocating your shoulder is probably the worst pain I’ve every experienced.
Let your should heal.
Do work when the pain is gone to build the muscles up strong.
If it does feel “loose” then you are ok to be back to normal. If it starts feeling loose it would be good to get a MRI and have some see if anything is torn.
Theres a great chance for 100% recovery, but every situation is different.
I lost track of how many times my shoulder dislocated. So many times just getting out of bed it popped out and I leaned over and pulled down on my wrist to pop it back in. Finally went to doctor and he did an old school Bristow repair where they cut off the nub of bone the muscle and pulled it tight and put a screw in to reattach and its been fine ever since and its been 40+ years
