6 hrs on my husky and I just noticed this. Not sure if it's a manufacture defect or a crack from something hitting it

Looks too irregular to be a defect, to me. Looks like part of it may have penetrated through. Hard to tell though. Deserves attention.

Hmm? That does look like it was repaired. By who...I don't know. Made me nervous so I went out with a magnifying glass to look mine over.

And no I wouldn't worry about it. Look for oil and so forth just in case. But my bet is you'll be just fine.

What seems to be popular around here lately....could definitely be loose sprocket bolts. Smile

It should be ok (casting flaw) but you might show your dealer so if you had an issue they could back you up.

It appears I was off target. How can you tell its a casting flaw? The asymmetry looks to me more natural and less "flaw" like. Im not arguing, just want to know. Am I seeing something at 3 o'clock that makes it looks penetrating?

Many casting specs in mfg processes permit local welding to correct porosity and cold-shut type defects when rejected by NDT or visual inspection operations. It almost looks like there is also an epoxy application below the adjacent bolt head (color difference)?

At the very least I would email your dealer pictures of it so you have a time stamped correspondence with them about the issue if anything bad were to come of it.

If something hit it you got lucky. A rock went in between my case and sprocket and shreded the case. Thing good no longer hold oil so it cost me new cases and the full rebuild.

Looks like a defect to me, not sure how an impact could cause something like that... no obvious impact impression from the outside.

Good advice.

Bingo, that wouldn't hurt!

Every time I bring my truck in for service I tell the advisor every little thing even though I know they won't find anything, but it's written down and I can go back and say see I told you guys something wasnt right if it blows up!

I'd call my dealer & let him know what you found & tell them that's you just wanted it noted.

Then send them a few pictures, also include a pic of your S/N & Hour meter.

Tell them that your also sending the pic's to Husky USA, your just trying to cover it just in case.

Ask then if you should run it or bring it in to be looked at\replaced?

Definitely a casting flaw. I've seen similar imperfections many times. Don't worry about it.

Agree -- looks like a surface casting flaw to me. Is it leaking oil? No? Run it. And give it a good look every time you wash it.

You know, all them German refugees fleeing Germany to Italy to escape all the refugees fleeing the ME into Germany.
Them Italians ain't no dummies, they have Europe's best German metal worker's now making Huskies-maybe ruskies too? Probably paying them lira's to euro's as well.
