Should I buy a Gopro Session 4 or 5 for moto?

I am wanting to buy a Gopro camera. I am looking at the Session Hero 4 or Session Hero 5 cameras. I will be using it for moto, trail riding and street riding mainly. Anybody have any input or advice on these cameras? Is the Session Hero 5 worth the extra $100.00 over the Session Hero 4? I appreciate any feedback.

What do you do with the videos? Store them on your computer to show you aunt or uncle. Or do you upload to YouTube or Instagram to a larger audience?

They both do the job. The 5 does it better. For simply just filming a Moto to see how you did the 4 does the job for less money

Could depend on where he wants to mount it. I mount my session (previsouly my Hero 3) under my visor. Gets the best rider POV in my opinion as you dont see the visor in the videos. Can't do that with the Sony. Session fits great under there and you don't even notice it.

I would never buy another session for moto. In the first moto I used it in, the lens cover cracked from roost, making it unusable. I paid 40 bucks for the replacement kit and the new lens cover cracked within one practice day where i barely got roosted. It works good when the cover is not smashed though.

I will be mounting the Gopro on my helmet. Where is the best location to mount on a helmet? I will be saving video to my computer and some uploading on the internet. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Get the regular GoPro.. 4 or 5 doesn't really matter if it's not for a big audience. The session is a pile of crap compared to the main GoPro's. The 5 is not as big and bulky as the 4 but costs more obviously.

I bought the session. Works good, can't complain for $200.
Shoots 1080p at 60fps. Also super wide view. I don't edit, just watch the videos to see lines/lap times.
I use it for more than just moto, but I'd recommend it.
Cons: internal battery that can't be changed. Maybe 1.3hrs of film time total.
I control it via the app from my phone, sometimes is a pain other times works good.
7/10 overall

I don't have a 4K TV, so playback on 4K mode would not matter as far as I know, al my TV's are 1080, not sure about my computers I think they are all 1080 also. I know the session 4 is 1080p60 and the 5 is 1080p90. Is there that much difference between the two? Anybody have any trouble with the battery since it can not be removed or replaced from the session models.

The biggest feature of the 5 for me is that it has motion stabilization. I'd love to see the output unedited for Motocross, then decide if it's worth it for that alone.
It's also smaller and includes an LCD.

If I was buying a new camera, I'd spring the extra $100 for the 5.
In reality I bought my 3+ Black edition on Craigslist 18 months ago for $210 with some extras.

Having a camera is great! I record every practice and race, then watch it and find out where I can improve.
No matter how fast I feel on a given day, the GoPro tells me the truth Smile .

I usually record in 1080p wide 30fps.
60fps is great but takes up a lot more space on the hard drive.
If you want to do slow motion, tools like After Effects will create the in between frames pretty damn well.

I just bought the Gopro Hero Black 5 for $399.00 with a 32gb scandisc card and the helmet adhesive mounting kit included for free. I decided I want to be able to replace the battery if it ever goes bad. The gopro sessions batteries can not be replaced, if they go bad, the Gopro Session camera is useless, there is no way to fix it, just throw it away. I will post an update on how good The Hero 5 Black works after a few rides to see video quality.

Does anyone have a Gopro Hero Black 4 camera? Would like to get some reviews and advice on the camera I just bought. Thanks for any help on this.

Do not bother with the Session cameras. The non removable battery option is a killer unless you are a pro and want the smallest and lightest. Get the Hero 4 Silver, it will do anything you will ever need. And if you want the greatest then go with the new Hero 5, it will be a competitive camera for the next few years at least. Each of those has a removable battery, so no stomping to recharge- swap out and go. Also as availability extended battery packs for hours of non stop video while riding.

****I am in no way trying to sell you a GoPro, I am just giving my opinion. I have extensive experience with selling and setting up/using all of the Gopros from the 3+ and up.

I think the session 4 is brilliant. Been using it for the past 12 months. Mount it under your helmet peak and that protects its a bit, plus it doesn't look as weird as a box stuck on top. I use these thin glass screen protectors. They're cheap and stick over the lens. Cracked two of them now from roost but the original lens is fine. I'm sure the 5 is even better, but the 4 does a great job in my opinion. I get what people are saying about the battery not being removable, but with my old gopro 2 I had a handful of batteries to keep it going all day. The session battery just lasts better. Been good for 12 months now and and I don't miss the ability to swap them out.

Image quality isn't quite as good on the GoPro session. If the price difference isn't a big deal, get the 5. People who say "get the sony" are firing off the same argument as iPhone vs. Droid. As a filmer/editor - every time i've been handed song action cam footage...it's been garbage. I hate to bandwagon GoPro, but their camera is by far the better choice.

As far as the image quality goes, most riders end up putting the results on Youtube. If you want to do that and not have enormous file sizes to work with, you'll probably have to scale down the resolution anyway. My session 4 films at 1920 x 1080 but I scale down the footage to 1280 x 720 to upload to Youtube. If you're making a movie or need film quality then fair enough, but most people don't. The fact that the session is waterproof, without a case, and you can mount it under the visor is cool I think.

When recording while riding what is the best fps for the 1080 setting on my Gopro Hero Black 5 camera? Any other advice on settings would be appreciated. Thank you for all the help.

You want the highest FPS/Bitrate possible inorder to avoid compression issues that gopro's are known for in fast paced environments.

I REALLY wish sony would take on a gopro form factor. Their camera has a way higher bit rate than gopro's.

That's not really a valid comment as you were "handed" footage...I have yet to use a sony, but the hardware/stats don't lie. The low bitrate has been GoPro's problem since the beginning...ridiculous compression issues when moving fast...works great when going slow though.

Sony has almost double the bitrate. If their form factor wasn't so awkward I'd pick one up in a heartbeat.

Get a Garmin Virb. The Ultra 30 has a GPS chip with a 10hz update rate and will basically do most of what the litpro does and impose it over the video, including heart rate if you wear a strap. Has accelerometers, gyro, altimeter and compass that record at 100 times a second. Shows your Gs, air time, jump height, etc. Same price as hero 5 black. I don't know why people still buy gopros for mx.
