Serious KTM question

With the bikes seemingly as good as they are this year, what can KTM/Husky possibly do for 17.5 FE and MY18?

I can't see too much more weight loss, given they are at or near minimum race weights, and it's unlikely that the smokers will go EFI/DI.

BTW, I own two yammies, so I'm no fanboy. Only ever owned one KTM and didn't gel with it.

More power! They are keeping the jap bikes honest with a power arms race and hopefully that continues.

If the can bring the power of the 250 a little lower for more bottom end I think the big would appeal to a broader range of riders. Not peak HP, but roll on bottom end grunt.

I bet they are working on different injector angles like Yamaha and Honda for the future

It's even more interesting to think what the next complete new bike will be like, there's always room to refine the corrent model but when the all new chassis comes out in a few years, what could that be like.

There will be EFI/DI 2 strokes in the future.

2016 was the last 125 EXC that could be registered to the roads because the 2017 wont pass the emission targets.

Edit: Actually there isn't an 125 EXC in 2017, it's called XC 125.

I think they can do lots of stuff with the 4 strokes. It's the first gen of the WP airfork, that will probably improve in the future.

Rocket boosters...they're going to introduce rocket boosters. Homologated rocket boosters. Holeshot machines.

You can always go lighter so you can put the weight where you want. More horsepower and improved suspension wouldn't be bad.

I haven't heard anything, but I do hope KTM brings back the Orange frames for the 2018's!

Make it more reliable, but then that means adding more weight...hmmmm....maybe back to spring forks, oh wait that means adding more weight...hmmmm

As an avid road cyclist, I should have known better. Good point.

I realize the power isn't for everyone and the new bikes are more "rideable".

Slow on set of power that sounds like a lawn mower does nothing for me however.

From what I have seen, there are many spring forks that are nowhere near as good as that AER48 fork. Everyone keeps saying Air is going to go away, but I don't think it will. The Kawi TAC fork and this AER fork are pretty good. If the fork performs well enough, is multiple pounds lighter and cheaper to produce... I can't see that going away. Honda went back to spring because they SUCKED at spec'ing a decent air fork.

cost and weight will be the determining factors here. The KTM/Husky bikes are already expensive. And I think it would add more weight to the bike for the DI equipment, which will be something they dont want.

I would be a lot happier with my 16 ktm if the bolts had a better finish.

I am talking about a DI two stroke, I own both a 125 and 250 smoker...DI is pointless if you know how to jet. No sense in over complicating them
