Where do you think we'll be 10 years from now as far as bikes, riders and track designs?...

I think in 10 to 15 years the sport is going to move into using electric bikes and grow exponentially because of it.

Here's the bikes. Maybe not 10 years, but eventually. Sad but true.

Damn you guys rolled the gate on me. Cheaters. I'm protesting for a gate motion sensing device. To the AMA trailer for inspection, all of you.

I see MX fading a bit, and EnduroCross gaining steam.

Whether we like it or not, getting "butts in the seats" is what will drive each series. While MX is "core", it is also the least visible venue for the fans. Whether we like SX or EX, I see both of those series growing.

What would be sad about that. Could you imagine how cool it would be to be able to ride pretty much wherever you want. if you have a yard big enough you could build a track no matter where you lived. Cities could build tracks next to skate parks. Clubs could buy lots and build tracks in town. What is not to like about that?

I don't know if I can get excited about a bike that doesn't make any noise

I see your point, and that's a huge upside. I know I'm spoiled to grow up in the country with several acres where I was fortunate enough to be able to ride without worry and build my own track. BUT I think a huge downside would be water resistance for trail riders(possibly), battery life, having to buy new electric motors as opposed to rebuilding an engine, etc, etc. It's no doubt great for opening new opportunities for riding areas, but I just have a feeling the cost of owning a bike is going to go up to around the $10-$12k range. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Maybe they're prototypes? I haven't heard of them being for sale, but that doesn't mean its not possible.

All electric mx, could open the door for more convenient location options.
No noise = no noise complaints.

I don't think it would completely eliminate gas engines it would just provide a broader spectrum of participation. I think costs would be much less for electronics than mechanical. Electronics engines are much less complicated than mechanical and as far as batteries go, for motocross you wouldn't need an expensive one and technology is continuing to develop at a rapid rate so advanced batteries will be much better and more affordable very soon.

People will still say they destroy the environment and produce too much dust. We will always be a nuisance.

As far as cost, aren't batteries for these bikes close to the $10,000 ballpark???

Any new technology is always immensly expensive initially. but once on the market for a while and that market gets competitive with other manufacturers getting involved the price will usually drop considerably.

I think it would be very cool to ride these bikes and if they are capable of the same things as todays modern bikes why wouldn't you be interested. especially if the cost was such that motor maintenance was nearly non existant.

Its like anything....give it a few years and it will be what all the cool kids want.

I think there will be a market for electric mx bikes in the future.

I wonder if a market exists for one of the big five manufacturers make another bike brand that is targeted more to entry level riders with not the latest tech but still good and less expensive. Like KTM could have the ready to race line, and the ready to ride line. Maybe this is what the used bike market serves anyways.

Being a little bit in to RC car racing it's amazing the advances that have been made in the last 10 years. Electric is now faster and more efficient than the nitro cars with brushless motors that come with lifetime no maintenance warranties and Lipo batteries that extend running time and have very little or no drop off in power. But the Lipo' s can bust into flames if not handled correctly.
Overall it can't be long before they upsize this technology and apply it to bigger vehicle's.

I'd be all over an electric bike if it meant I could ride at or near my house without any problems, even if it was a scaled back track.

Yep, or too dangerous, etc, etc. People that think electric bikes will mean public mx tracks in the middle of town are dreaming IMO.

The day mike bike sounds like an RC car and no longer emits a burnt cotton candy smell from the silencer is the day I quit.

Famous last words. Especially when you'll be riding it "cheaper than ever"....imagine plugging your bike in to a Solar Charger between Motos...and reprogramming the power delivery for your 2nd Moto....

It looks like I'm in the minority in this, but I would welcome the electric bike movement.
