My son or I didn't shut the garage door. I thought I checked, but sometime between 845pm and midnight. They grabbed those 2. Didn't touch the kids bikes or any of my tools. Was a quick grab and go it looks like. I'm guessing they are within a mile of my house in someone's garage right now. Insurance wont cover because they are motor vehicles. Another expensive lesson learned I guess. Got the Husky for Father's day and rode it once.

If I did that my dad would have beat me silly. When I was like 10 yrs old I left my BMX outside and he took it to a friends garage and told me it was stolen. he let me think that for 2 weeks. Then eventually told me and walked me over there to get it. That was a very important lesson for me. I couldn't imagine if I did something to have gotten his MX bikes stolen SadSadSad

Yep somebody close by.
Go talk to neighbors, put some signs up, and go talk to kids in the neighborhood. That isn't very late and somebody saw something.

Do any neighbors have outside security cameras that may have caught something?

Bump for visibility. Just asking people to keep their eyes open. New Husky 350s aren't that common.

I'll keep an eye out around our neck of the woods in Chandler and Gilbert. I too travel all over the state and will watch out for them. I suspect the thieves are laying low, but sooner or later they will surface. Watch CL for parting out the bikes, especially the Zook.

So I got a call a little after Midnight last night and my Husky was recovered. The bike was stolen July 2, 2016 and was recovered in October of 2016. It has taken a year for the PD and ADOT Enforcement to ID the bike and contact me. I am in Georgia now and it is at an ADOT Enforcement lot in Tucson. I will see pictures on Monday and assess how trashed it is. All they could tell me was that it is in "Rideable Running Condition but looks kinda rough." This was as stated by a cop who obviously knew nothing about motorcycles after being relayed. They have been trying to track it for a while. It has had the VIN shaved off and they finally got the actual VIN by taking it to a Husky dealer and hooking it up to the computer.

We had multiple reports of people seeing it around the area it was recovered but were never able to find anything concrete. Still waiting on exact details of how it was recovered and circumstances around it.

Holy geez man, glad you've at least got some closure on the whole deal, and hopefully/eventually a bike to ride. I know law enforcement may not of made this case a "top priority", but still pretty cool they at least took the time to take it to a dealer to have the vin checked out rather than taking the easy route and calling the case cold and just scraping it. Wonder how they came across it?

How can you sleep at night with the garage door open? I would get paranoid with the alarm off or the bike not locked down.

Edit : I didn't realize this was an old thread. Glad to hear the Husky made it back.

I'm sure it was by accident. We've left ours open all night before by accident. I always have my bikes locked up inside my garage (just in case) and 99.9% of the time the garage locked itself.

Just curious, did your insurance cover it when it was stolen given that your garage door was left open? Also, did they get the bastard that stole it? It would have been hard to recognize the bike out here in AZ, seems like there are a ton of Huskys out there now days.

Always make sure the garage goes down. The sun reflecting on the sensors at sunset will cause them to shoot back up. Also put a zip tie on the manual release.

bit of a cool story hansel.

my buddy built the ultimate 2012 yz250 (when it was brand new) motor work, kashima suspension... you name it, it had it.

Anyway one stormy night some asshole stole his bike, he lived in an apartment complex where the garages where all downstairs. So he hired one of my other buddies to install a trick alarm system in his garage with all the bells and whistles.

2 weeks later, same buddy has a new KTM350sx, he is coming home from work and notices a suspicious looking dude in his neighbors garage. He had removed a brick and was drilling into my mates garage.

So my mate slams the door on him, effectively trapping him inside. Yells for help from one of his neighbours and the guy is like a wild animal trying to bust his way out.

Cops come and take the piece of shit away. 2 days later my buddy gets a phone call from the cops, his YZ250 has been recovered, was the same dude trying to steal his KTM.

What I would have given to beat 7 shades of shit out of the guy while he was in the garage....

That's seriously bold. The thief pressed his luck, and thankfully his luck ran out!

I hate a thief. My daughter is 15 years old and oblivious to anything she does...her foresight extends about 5 minutes from the present when it comes to any decision she makes. I have to remind her all of the time "close the garage, that is a $9,000 motorcycle out there for anybody to take." She's left our garage open all night before. We've basically resorted to telling her that she's not even allowed to go into the garage. I've been lucky but I need to get a supplement to my homeowners policy to cover theft.

Sorry for your loss, the punishment the guy receives is just a slap on the wrist compared to the blood sweat and tears required to save the money to make that purchase and replace it. I'd love nothing more than 10 minutes alone with this POS armed with a nice piece of rubber hose.

You need one of these. Alerts you when garage door opens or closes. And you can setup a schedule to automatically close door at a certain time, etc.
