Edit : I'm 13 5'7 140 lbs. I'm also using it for MX riding and trail riding. 11/26/16 I'm visiting a dealer with the KX 85 and a dealer with the SSR 125 I have already set my mind on the KX 85 not the SSR 125 but my uncle wants me to see the differences. That way I don't mess up when I'm older. Thanks for all the help! And some smart A comments:-)

Technically it's a KX 85. Buy the KX. Buy a used one. Mow more lawns. Don't go Chinese

When was the last time they actually made the kx85 better? Buy one that is about eight years old for $800. Learn how to work on it yourself too. Or you could just start a go fund me page every time it breaks.

For what it's worth, my dad bought my brother and I a couple SSR (or similar knock off Chinese brand) pit bikes 10 or so years ago.

They looked cool as shit, but 20 minutes into the first ride parts literally started falling off the damn thing. Shifter sheared off, chain snapped, rims bent from jumping off a curb.

And also, I don't know why you would drop 4K on an 80 if you are considering buying a knock off 125. You can find used 125's all day long for 2,500-3,500 all day long. Put some elbow grease into a beat up one and save yourself a ton of money.

Best of luck bud

The SSR line of bikes probably have one of the better reputations out of the Chinese bikes. Never really heard anything negative about them honestly. I bought my son an Apollo 70 this past summer and the thing runs like a top. I actually had a sled hooked up to it this afternoon and was pulling him around the yard with it lol, we've had zero issues with it.

They are way different styles of bikes.

The 125 4 stroke will be a dog.
The 80cc 2 strokes would be way more fun to ride but you might think about just getting a 125 2 stroke.

Or buy a nice, used KX 80 for $1500-2000. For that matter, no reason not to consider RM's and YZ's too. Or, like mentioned above, 125's.

They're not even vaguely similar. One is a Chinese pit bike. And one is a mini class racebike. It could even be the case that neither is right for you, and something like a TTR125LE will serve you better, and be cheaper to own than either of them.

Is this for motocross, trail riding, or just a ranch bike? And how tall/heavy are you? Who is doing the maintenance on it?

I would pick up an 80-85 that needs a little work. Spend like 300-400. I find these deals all the time so I know you can too. Craig's list is a great place to find these deals.. Then have your family help you fix it for another 100 or 200. Most of these bikes need a carb clean and a top end. Lots of good learning and be in it less than 1000 dollars. Then make sure you get a good helmet. Way way better than a ssr.

I know a father and son who bought a pair of ssr 125, they were piles! But, those 2 would smoke any klx 110 with mods. So, $500 for 6 months of thrash it fun, or 2k or more for, well, a decent little thing. But, also, a kx85 is a real mx machine. Which smokes those other bikes, like real easy.

Ssr's aren't terrible but pull it apart if u get one and loctite every fastener on it or they'll come out.
But like most say get a 80/85 used and learn to fix it and ride.
If ur gonna be riding it in the yard and not much riding access id get a klx or crf110 over an SSR and slowly tinker and mod that.

As for SSR beating mod 110s lol the 110s must not have had much done to the motor if anything really.

If you want a bad ass pitbike, buy a KX 65. Twice as fast.

That whole 4 strke pitbike fad was just stupid.

Get a play bike, I raced for a bit on a yz 125 and a KX 100 before that and it wasn't for me but I got an XR and I love it. I'm 14, 125lbs and 5'9. PM me and we can talk about it further but don't listen to most of these guys, they are mostly incapable of understanding not everyone has the funds, talent,or the place for a full size bike and I highly recommend you don't get a 125 2 stroke or even an 85 to start out with. Trust me, you will have more fun on a play bike and thats what it's all about. Like I said, just shoot me a PM and we can talk.

Neither. If you're using the bike strictly for trail riding pick up something like a TTR125LE or maybe a used KDX200. But since you said MX riding and you're 5'7 and 140#, find a good condition 125 two stroke and have yourself a great time. If you insist on a mini sized bike, find a good deal on a KX100.

You aren't going to get any smaller over the next few years and it sounds like mommy/daddy won't be showering you with cash for swapping bikes every 6 months. Plan ahead and you'll be much, much happier.

Couple of minutes found this:
Don't know if any of them are good, bad, or otherwise. Maybe find someone on Vital in the area that can help you find a decent bike.
