I'm not sure it could even be quantified. I'm a dealer so I know first hand what he has done for the brands image and to sales. Granted sales were on the upswing when Ryan came along but I'm not sure any single rider has ever done more for a brand in the history of the sport. Only Marty Smith comes to mind with Honda. Ryan I don't know if you read the nonsense on here but I personally can't thank you enough. I hope you stay on with KTM in some capacity.

His results in the 450 class legitimized the KTM brand to the mass market consumer. If it was good enough at the highest level in racing, it was good enough at the local track.

Just like when Roger Decoster and Joel Robert switched to Suzuki and it made the Japanese brand legitimate to the worldwide market.

I think KTMs commitment to make the bike changes necessary to be a winner and Dungeys input are equal to their success!

Hopefully KTM gave him a boatload of stock options when he went there.

Yeah this is an oft-overlooked point but one that's almost as impressive as his championships themselves. He and the KTM team pioneered the brand past all preconceived notions, and for that Dungey should be very, very proud.

This is probably an understatement as to why KTM is thriving and Suzuki is stuck in a rut.

It is a group effort where the right rider and the right company came together. What I will always remember is the giant leap of faith that both Rodger and Ryan took with coming to KTM. For a top rider to come to a bike that had never won a 450 race much less a championship in his prime should never be overlooked.

How about the brand loyalty generated? How many 7-12 year olds on mini bikes idolize Ryan Dungey and KTM? KTM scored huge with Roger, Ryan and Ian. Going to be hard to put a number on it in 15 years but what they spent is peanuts.

I would've never considered a KTM product before 2012. 5 yrs later I own my first KTM product and am looking at a pair of mini 50's for my kids.

I think DeCoster shares the credit with Dungey for forcing KTM to change their motorcycle from a slack handling euro style bike to what they have today.

Remember, when Dungey made the commitment to KTM, DeCoster basically promised him an entirely new motorcycle that could compete with the Japanese brands in supercross.

Now look at KTM 6 years later, they have surpassed other brands to be on the cutting edge of technology in dirt bikes. I'll bet DeCoster's push for development was the reason.

Lol no, But that'd be wild if the company offered him shares as incentive.

KTM AG became a part of KTM industries AG (former cross industries AG), the latter is on the stock market. -> http://www.six-swiss-exchange.com/shares/security_info_de.html?id=AT000…

Making a new bike every year doesn't add up to more profit. The cost of R&D, moulds for the new parts, one off trial parts, re-engineering your production line etc would be taking a big bight of the profit in SXF sales. I'll bet you Suzuki made more profit from their 450 MX line.
