Rumour s circulating press room at Maggiora abd just confirmed by a reliable source is Glen Helen have given up contract to stage 2017 event, sighting poor spectator attendance at recent MXGPs and not willing to invest over 500,000 into an event unsure if fickle SoCal crowd will support a des nations.
Sad if this is true?

I heard this from a few people. Matterley Basin is the apparent new venue, which is obviously exciting for us. Not going to go down well across the pond though that's for sure

That would suck! Needs something new then a euro track. I d love to see it at the Argentina location that was a good track.

Surely a Mxdn at GH would attract at least the same amount of people as a national

They had a little more that 9.000 people at the last national at Glen Helen.....

Bummer, but there has to be some sense in doing it. Kegums went bankrupt after MXON 2014 because only 1/3 of anticipated crowd showed up.

That would definitely suck if it's true, but if that number is accurate ($500k), can you really blame Bud Feldkamp? No matter how prestigious the race, that's a lot of money for very little in return.

I kind of like it over seas. Something different to watch and I like the challenge our riders face. Not good for our guys I know, but personally I like it on foreign soil. It's like send our best and go kick some ass. At home it's a foregone conclusion almost we will win. Not really that exciting and plus we have the US gps to see our guys race the world on home soil. So there would be a major lack of interest here by the time that rolled around. Least from me anyway.

That's awesome news if it's going to Matterley next year, I would rather it be a 2 hour drive and be there watching it live than watch it on TV because it's on the other side of the world.... Sorry guys in the USA.

If the racers should do it for free why does Mr. L need such a steep promoter fee? Shouldn't he do it for the love of the sport also? Surely he could do without for one race each year...

Well, if it's Dr Feldcamp and Co pulling out of it, what can you say.

The 'Heartbed' of US MX has shown next to no interest in the GPs. And, as someone above pointed out, they seem to get pretty small numbers at the GH Nationals, compared to others, so, they might have deduced they will have no reasonable pay day (which they need and deserve after the 4 GPs there) coming, and have bailed out of it.

I doubt Luongo was going to give any sweetheart deal for the MXDN. Full wack, would be what he'd be after, especially if he'd given (even slightly) better rates to GH for the GPs.

MXDN held elsewhere, and you'll have a massive attendance. California, seems to be so SX oriented, more so that even the rest of the US. Mind you, haven't attendances been going down at the CA SX's? The perils of TV coverage, I think. I'm regularly in the US during Jan and Feb, and even with my being with Moto people every time, we choose to do things other than go to a stadium full of drunkards and Monster truck fans. At least at Nationals / GPs, you are largely around genuine MX enthusiasts.

It will be a bummer if it's not at Glen Helen. In the last few days I'd just sorted out taking my Danish relos there, next year.

Hope it's not true, but fear it is.

Also wouldn't they not be able to run the National or GP if they are holding the Des Nations? Or is that only a GP rule?

I agree. The GPs have some amazing tracks and locations. It's fun to watch them sometimes.

In their case, not being able to run the GP would be a good thing.

I thought the talk of GH possibly not having the des Nations has been going on for a while now? Or maybe I confused it with something else.

I think there is quite a bit of difference, from a fans perspective, between a GP held in the US and an MXON held in the US.

That is a great question and really speaks to the point of why Riders should not be crucified for not going.

Nope, Silverstone and Hawkstone as a kid apparently, but too young to remember.

Apparently I walked off from Dad, 3 years old, 1985 Silverstone F1 Gp, fuck knows how many people. Took them 3-4 hours to find me. Did the same thing at Wonderland when I was 8 and Disney when I was 10.

Anyways. I think the Matterly track licks balls. Just don't think the track produces good racing, especially the nutty booters...

Roger will take his ball and go home if this is true. Will probably happen either way.

Imgine that. if true, USA should pull out of race. Why do the Americans, Austrialians, New Zelanders, South Africans and Russians always have to go race in Europe. At least change the name to Motocross Des Europe so it is a more accurate. It seems like it goes from France, England to Italy and if it's not in one of those countries it shares a border with one. Perhaps it can be on one of two French tracks after that?

You can't talk like that. It's only American riders that can be blamed.

I think the best way if it does move, would be to offer the race to all other American tracks and promoters, then if that fails, take it somewhere else.

Someone asked Matthes about this on twitter yesterday. He said he'd heard the rumours but that it was still going to be held at GH.

It would be a massive shame if it wasnt.

The whole thing was sabotaged. Everyone knew knew the Charlotte race was going to be pathetic, put the exact same race at Red Bud and you would have 3X the crowd. Glen Helen is a great track but you have to have some Americans racing to draw interest.

That leads to the next point... they put two GP's in America and American racers couldn't be bothered to go. Couple that with Americans turning down MXDN rides and thats gotta piss people off. I'd feel the same way....if they don't care about being in my races I don't care about my races being in their country.
