Barcia Rumors!!

Hearing rumors that Honda Japan have signed Barcia for MXGP in 2015. This can't be true can it?

That is what they would need in GPs.

Now I am not sure it is the best for Honda in the US, since they are not so many riders that can win.

Now don't go and start a new Barcia rumor until we get the older one good and worn out. Once the old one has been beat to death, then you can bring this one back.

Doesn't make sense. Barcia seems more of an SX rider than MX. Can't see him leaving SX

Seems a bit weird to bring him in part way through the season though. It would be great to have him over here, but I can't imagine any championship contender would be keen on swapping over to a series with such a points handicap unless they simply view it as a learning process.

Next year might sound more plasuible but I can't see him leaving the US.

Do they have enough room on the team for the Alessi's also?

That would be awesome. I wish the japanese brands would start to put more interest in the GP's.

I think JGR might have something to say about that...

I'd love to see it but find it hard to believe right now. Justin especially just doesn't strike me as the kind of rider who'd want to up and leave America and SX. And although he's having a rough year, by no means has it been horrendous - in other words I'd be surprised if he's desperate for any contract that comes. But who knows.... if the contract is amazing, and maybe he fancies the doing the GPs after all.

I can't imagine a better ambassador for the Yanks. He's so well liked in our pits. Wink

HRC are back in GP MX and want to challenge KTM so it isn't impossible. Could Barcia adapt to GPs though and stay a full season with all the different tracks and countries? Much easier for him to stay in America with JGR or whoever.

One thing is for sure it would make him a smarter and smoother rider. And he would be one of the contenders.

I would love to see it. But heard was going JGR next year and seems strange he would leave AMA halfway through this season... although all doesn't seem well with him and the team.

SX would be better off without him but I don't think so.

If we go full fantasy I would like to see him doing the GP's on a Honda 125. He sure knows how to rev in the air on those...

Not Barcia, Geoff, rather Brad Lackey. And not 2015, but 1975. Stamp it.

Barcia wouldn't last 5 minutes in the MXGP's if he tried to bring his Bam Bam techniques against guys like Cairoli, Paulin, Bobryshrev etc.
He got a taste of what the Euro's think of his style when Ken DeDycker easily put him on the deck at the Lommel MXDN!

Lol. Nice.
One thing is for sure, if it happens, the Euros will be introduced to a whole new style of racing. The "If you can't win, wreck someone who can" style. Would be interesting to see where he'd place over there, though.

You can't ride wide open and aggressive on GP tracks.

Barica already was watching Cairoli in Germany and seeing how differently he rode and carrying his speed round the turns.

Davey,
I got to interview Brad lackey for about 45 minutes at the recent Vintage Off Road Show in Telford England, where Brad was Guest of Honour.
He's such a great guy to interview, lots of great stories from his GP days, battling the Suzuki engineers to run Simons forks on his bike and having his own mechanic and tuner, running basically a satellite team inside team Suzuki.
Brad definitely ploughed his own furrow on his way to be World Champion and was never a company "yes man"!

His last year with Suzuki was something of a mess for both sides, even though they won the world title, but after that Suzuki pretty much gave up on open-class racing for years to come, and Lackey only rode one more GP: the 1983 U.S. Grand Prix on a privateer Yamaha. I think he got fifth-place.
