Trandponders will still be used for qualifying, but if a rider LOOKS a little faster than what the transponders report on the scoring tower, the FIM/AMA will "visually override" the time and give that rider the #1 spot.

Barcia will not lose the rest of the season, the kid looks like he is going 2x faster than anyone. Kdub however is fucked.

Isn't it funny how smooth looks slow until you see him along side (passing) someone.

Stefan Everts at Unadilla in I think 1997 was the slowest "looking" rider I have ever seen in my life. If you saw his qualifiers where he was riding around just standing straight up...braap, brap brap....When he came around for lap one I remember thinking "how is there a lapper already" He was just beating down these fast 20-30 place riders riders putting in what looked like a 50% effort.

Sounds like a BOCA Building Code Book.

One of the first things they say is "these regulations are guides, subject
to local jurisdiction interpretation."

So, in other words, the book isn't worth squat, just do as the inspector says.

I still think Dungey is on an illegal bike, but hey, that's bad for the show to bring that one up.

The call by the AMA was totally in line with the way MX has been scored for years.

Even at local races there are 3 scorers and the 2/3 majority rules. In the case of SX there are two human scorers and one electronic scorer.

Why is this such a big deal?

Because they said the finish line was somewhere different than everyone in the world thought it was. Because they use the transponders for qualifying and because it has not happened before.

That was a joke, first off scorekeepers are busy writing numbers on paper and the finish line guy is a guy who probably volunteered and got high in the parking lot before the race. Now that is some reliable sources there. Faith was a fill in for Geico and he still pitting with them so my guess they went to bat for him.

I don't understand how you can know this stuff before it's even talked about at the riders meeting. Not to mention this is ludicrous

Wow, I haven't seen that view yet. It appears what really happened is the exact opposite of what is being explained - ie - Faith crossed the transponder first but Peick was the first across the finish line.

Agreed. Ambiguity in rules shouldn't favor one rider over another. Let them both in. Even if one of them had to start on the second row. What's the harm with 21 people on the line.
