Really cool bike.

I dont have a ton of experience on many different bikes. I dont like thumpers (ridden both 250f's & 450f's). Ive ridden mostly 125t's and 250t's. My point being, this isnt a review or anything credible, just my take on the bike.

The Aprilia wasnt ur average thumper i sounds way cooler and rev's for days. I had a real tough time keeping the front end down (but I only weigh 150) as I was going thru the gears.

I wish the AMA would lift the single cylinder rule as this tech should be explored imo.

The big downside was the weight tho. Lotta spinning parts and a high COG are this bikes weak points.

But boy was it fun to open up a bike with that much power. If any of you get a chance to ride one you should.

More than single cylinder is not a thumper, those V-twins are sweet though.

A friend has one, they are screaming fast. Actually o.k. in the woods except for the tight and technical stuff. Not a bike of choice for off-road, but it rules when you get back on the open stuff.

I saw one for the 1st time Tues. at Spectrum in Irvine. Beautiful bike. They have only one. To me it looked very top heavy, kind of over engineered for a dirt bike. It is a street bike place. They have Ducati, Aprilia and MV Agusta. Some really cool bikes there.

RXV 550 enduro model. 2007 model, and I think it was not properly titled, but they pulled it off anyway.
V-Twin, hooks up surprisingly well, on the road it will pull past my KTM XCW 450 like I'm on a school bus.
Don't know if I would trust it in the Desert unless I had support. That said, with the type trail riding/Dual Sport riding we do here in NC, it has held up well (initial motor problems the dealer took care of) Fuel injection is cool, no problems from sea level to 6k ft.
Gotta be the baddest supermoto bike you could have.

From what I've read, the reliability issues are pretty significant. Lots of power, great bike, but expect to shell out big bucks to keep it running.

I bought a Supermotard for the street recently and the Aprilia was my first choice. It's pretty disheartening when even the Aprila dealer is telling you they are piles.

I bought a KTM 'tard instead.

Maybe the AMA should lift that ban on the 2 cylinder bikes and hey since Jlaw isnt too busy here for the next year maybe he can test it for them-jk

I think it is really interesting that someone has some different ideas and put them into production. Just because the japansese manufacturers do it one way does not mean iti s the best. e.g. if someone took the time and engineered a bike in which the piston moved parallel to the ground rather than up and down it would greatly reduce the wieght the rider feels. There are a ton of ideas out there, but so few willing to try, Kudos to Aprillia.

Actually it's completely the opposite. The 450 is more reliable of the two.

There were significant problems with them in '07. It sounds from what hear that they have addressed them with the 08 models. The fix for the 07's was dropping in the 08 motors and people seem to be happy with the fix.

For a little manufacturer they sure do stand behind their product. I know a guy who bought a TM supermoto and he has had nothing but problems with it. The Canadian importer was just a dick about it, and the factory said to deal with the importer.

Honestly I don't think that multiple cylinder machines would be a good idea for. The 450's are already making plenty of power, a tweaked 250F twin could hit 50HP, the repair cost would be even higher, as would the weight (all the complaints of the 4 stroke multiplied). The only advantage would be a slight reduction in noise (though not as quiet as a 2 stroke).

I can understand why Aprillia made the V-twins, it's a great marketing move. Combined with the Supermoto and street stuff that can actually use loads of HP, it's brilliant.
