It holds everything perfectly in place along with allowing wrist movement, he will probably have another one by his elbow.

Assume it's to help keep the arm/wrist locked in a specific position? Just a guess though. ^

Man I hate seeing them but wow they are so much better and more comfortable than being stuck in a cast for 2 months.

If they are still trying to get dirt out of the wound that's a scary thing for infection!

It is an external fixation. It is used to start the healing process until swelling goes down before an open reduction internal fixation surgery on some patients

I hate to make light of a man's suffering but, that's funny! Mainly because it kinda does. Either that or, the rear brake rod off of a 74 MX 175 Yamaha run through a cable luber. Minus the wing nut that came standard naturally. Get well soon KR!

That thing is pretty rough looking for a piece of medical equipment - looks like it spent some time out in the weather or something...

Had the exact same thing on my left wrist. External fixator is what they call that. Have some wicked little scars from it too.

It is very tough and high risk. As good as RV was/is, he said in a recent interview that he would probably not do the motocross thing knowing what he now knows.

Am I the only one is a bit nervous hearing he's got dirt still in their?

Please correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Josh Demuth loose his leg a few years back due to an infection in the bone from not getting all the dirt cleaned out of his wound?

Still absolutely gutted for the dude. Could have been wayyyyyyy worse, but still just so bummed.

From Demuths Racerx interview.....

I crashed and broke my leg on one side and my foot on the other side. Both were real bad compound fractures. The leg ended up getting infected from being in the dirt right after the crash and basically never really healed. I ended up with a chronic bone infection, which then led to a staff infection. As it got worse and worse, they said they needed to cut my leg off. But first I had a bunch of failed surgeries on it. So they cut it off below the knee, which made things easier for recovery [than being above the knee]. But then shortly after my knee got a staph infection. So they had to go back in and take it off above the knee. It is has been about a year now, and everything seems to be going great.

Yeah the dirt is the scariest part of the compound fract. Challenge could go from getting 100% rom to keeping his arm. Yes thats why Josh's lower was ultimately taken
