Rmz 450-14 reliability

Hello guys new member here! Smile Im from sweden so you might get a hard time understanding me.

Ive been riding a Yzf450-10 for 160 hours without doing a thing (except changing piston at 100h)! My local store got a rmz 450 2014 who got 24 hours on it. Ive heard they had some problems with the transmission in the past but is that sorted now? Loved the yamaha and the way it handeled, suspesion was perfect! Im 6,2 tall so that might come in into consideration?

Best regards from sweden! #77

I had an 11 which is very similar (except for the forks and new frame). I found it to be as reliable as any other bike I've owned. The big issue with the 14 (if I remember correctly) was the rigid new frame design and the forks. I'm sure the forks can be fixed and unless you're super fast, I'm not sure you'd notice the rigid frame. Good overall bike.

So you mean its a stiff frame, in what what way can i notice that? Well i need to change the springs alteast, im only 73 kilos. Was the clutch hard to pull? Smile

I have the exact bike you are speaking of. Bought it brand new in July 2015. Not sure how many hours are exactly on it, but I can tell you there isn't 1 single issue thus far. Like others have said, have the front and rear suspension revalve done and you're good. I went with a lighter spring rate because I weigh 163 pounds. I have noticed it stays looking pretty new for a while, here is a recent photo from this past month.

Stability isn't it's strong point. It has a smooth motor and turns better than any other 450 on the market but is arguably the least stable in the rough high speed stuff.

Okey, that was a big thing i loved about the yamaha! My buddy has a rmz 250, could i compare that bike in any way to the 450?

I would not use a 250 as comparison to a 450 due to the weight and power of the motor. It will not feel the same to draw comparison from. The 450 is a balanced bike. You will have fun riding it if you were to get one. I say go for it, it's a better bike than 2010 Yamaha.

Those rmzs don't get enough credit for reliability l. My buddy has a 13 250f and he rides hard and has had no problems going on about 2 seasons, other buddy local pro had a 14 450 and rode about every weekend, sometimes sat and sun not even a valve adjustment. My 13 450 was CLAPPED and I bought it used and put a new piston and cam chain in when I got it. No problems with any of the bikes

Sounds good! :D i was looking to buy a brand new one but this bike cost around 2.500 and just got 24hours. Then i can spend some money on suspension and gas haha!

The faster you are the better a stiff frame would work in theory. Most Factory teams stiffen up their frames for that reason and I believe, while still heavy , that is why the rmz 450 handles and performs well at the top level. Since 08 the rmz 450 has been the winningest bike in professional racing.
