85 small wheels are better pit bikes. Same size, more power, good suspension don't have to spend 2 grand on motor work to make them go. Me and a friend had YZ85s instead of normal pit bikes and they were so much fun. All you really need to do is put some tall bars on it and heavier springs in the fork and shock and ready to go
Last year my son's interest in bikes fell off when he started high school. His focus turned to football and he didn't want to go ride anymore. So, I decided to sell our 125's and get another pitbike. That way I could simply ride on our backyard pitbike track anytime I felt like it. I bought a basically brand new KLX140L (the big wheel version) and did a few easy mods to create the ultimate pitbike (IMO anyway). I bolted on a set of KX85/KX100 forks, bar risers and flipped the rear linkage upside down (which raises the rear). I also did the basic power upgrades for any playbike (uncorked the exhaust and intake and rejet the carb). Nothing like coming home from work and spinning a few laps whenever I feel like it!

Before the Cub, there was the Honda Aero 50. This was the thing to have back in the day!! That and the Z50.

A few years back, I and several guys I was working with all bought used 85/superminis. We put a $2000 cap on the price we could spend, including the bike. Way better than a typical pit bike. As you mentioned, just put tall bars and stiffer springs on them and adults can ride and have tons of fun. They have plenty of power. Another plus, on organized track days we could ride our big bikes as normal, then ride when only minis are on the track. Nothing like railing the outside and struggling to clear jumps. The youngest in our group was 28, and the lightest was 160lbs. Good times.

A Yz85 with heavy springs? Not a pit bike.
Meh, to me a pit bike is something small and fun to race around on with your mates. spending upwards of 3 grand on a CRF50 or 110 to make it go even half as good as an 85 isn't fun, then their frames start cracking becuase they are fun bikes designed for kids learning to ride, and their suspension is crap and their brakes are crap and they are too short and now require a lot of maintenance coz you have gone from 10:1 compression ratio to 12:1 and skimmed 30thou off the head. A friend and I bought 2010 YZ85's for 2 grand each and had that much fun we got my father in law back into dirtbikes after nearly 15 years off them. All we did was over size bar mount/bar raisers, a set of tall pro tapers and went up a few spring rates. Fun is also value for money...

It's not a pit bike to me if it had a clutch. How are you suppose to cruise and hold a beer with a clutch? I been rocking a crf110
This. I just picked up a 2001 XR70 for that very reason. A fun dirt bike to have around for the little kids to ride, auto clutch so I can carry a cold Busch Light, and a touch bigger than a 50 for the adult fun.

I had a newer klx110L, the bigger version with a clutch. Felt like riding a small dirtbike. Quickly sold it, and got a normal 110

Pit Row
Here she be. Needs numbers and a couple other things.
I have a CT70H with the 4 speed clutch that I will never get rid of.
