Chad should be allowed to do whatever he wants to do within the guidelines of zoning and curfews (as defined at his time of purchase).
After that too bad.
okay...yeah, my dad does. Plain and simple there are rules, you have to follow rules. Reed is not above the law, he acted like he was by not getting permits to change his property. If you are going to do ANYTHING on your property you need to get it okayed with the township, county, or state.
This is the same for any one of us...we can put a personal track on our property without going to the township, but if enough people in your township or county complain the township or county can change rules for what you can OR can not do on your property. Does it suck, yeah, but if you go about it the right way you will most likely have less problems.
Personally, I dont know why Reed didnt buy at least 100 acres or so and put his track right in the middle of it. My family owns 66 acres (which was originally 130 when we purchased it) and let me tell you 60 acres isnt even big enough for a large national track, especially if you are going to be riding all the time. Even 130 acres isnt really big enough unless it is surrounded by trees.
> rules for what you can OR can not

Let's hear it for Big Government!
Wait until the US becomes as socialist as we are in Canada. Its even worse here. You don't own land here, you basically rent it from the govt, even if your name is on the deed.
You guys in the US are on your way!

I am going through this now with my property, Let me try to enlighten you all. How is the property zoned? If zoned agriculture, then you have to request a review from the county zoning department along with the agriculture department because it will no longer be used for agricultural propose and that portion of the land is no longer tax exempt.
If zoned open rural and a special use permit is issued then it only applies to a portion of the property that was stated on the application and a permit is only needed if it is used as a training facility.
Regardless of zoning, you must apply for a permit when building a infrastructure and asphalt is considered a infrastructure.
I told my planning and zoning department that I was going to build a track and they said it is something they don't need to know about unless it goes beyond private use.
Keep your neighbors happy happy happy and the county won't know or care.
I just hope he doesn't lose the ability to ride on his two replica indoor tracks when this is all said and done.

Did Reed get a permit for the go-cart track? What about to expand from 24 acres? I believe no for both, so rightfully so he should be getting flack.
Oh and yes, if they get enough complaints the township or county can and likely will change the uses of your property.
We have 3 little tracks on different properties within an hour of my house that were shut down due to this...they were right out along the road for people to see, which is the biggest problem and easiest way to get shut down.
Personally, I think we should be able to do whatever we want on our property, but the rules are rules. Get caught not abiding by them you deserve to be punished.
Tracks along a highway or road can be a distraction and the county can only make you put up a privacy fence or buffer if property is zoned open rural. Keep in mind that even private tracks can be deemed a training facility if there is constant use of it by friends
