Reed struggling in the whoops?

Not with his speed, that's never a problem for him, but last night marked the fourth time in three weeks I've seen Reed laying down at the end of a whoop section. He keeps losing the rear near the end of them. What's up with that? Chad has gone from one of the most mistake-free to one of the more mistake prone in the last few years. He has crashes you didn't use to see much from him, mental lapse type crashes.

He had the goods all day yesterday, shame to see him go down.

Trying too hard in his strongest area to overcompensate for what he gives up elsewhere. That's my theory.

I saw him run the whoops a few times when everyone else was hopping thru them. Thought to myself the guy is still badass.

Thought the same thing. He was looking good until he laid it down after that one run through the whoops

That theory could have merit. Seeing it as it happened I thought he was trying to move left and go for an aggressive pass on Bogle but after the replay I think he just screwed up. Just strange to see the whoops be his bugger...

Looked good and better than most to me. Reed's always been something else in whoops
Just pushed to hard and made simple mistake.

If anything it was his confidence in how fucking badass in whoops he is that caused him to push to hard and make a mistake.

Right but we're talking about a few of those mistakes at the end of them in a row now. Two in Dallas, happened last weekend, and again this weekend. Basically the same crash each time.

Exactly, it wasn't even like his problems started in the middle or beginning of whoops its the last few whoops and him readjusting his body for the corner because he's hauling so much ass. Reed has always killed whoops. If anything, I'd blame getting old and body reflexes not like they use too be than a whoop issue. He was destroying them and the bigger and far apart the better. I would say these were childs play to Chad and watching Marvin struggle to jump through them they were far enough apart or big enough.

It might be that he has sacrificed the straight line stability and rigidity that is necessary for the whoops in order to get the bike to turn better in the corners. We've seen that he runs his forks very high.

I don't know if that is the case but it's at least a theory.

This more what I was thinking, sacrificing setup for the whoops to achieve the feeling he needs out of the front end. Frustrating to see anyway, you can tell he's got the tools to do well he's just not putting it all together in the same week whether it's his starts, the bike, the mistakes. Wonder what happens after '17.

Looks like these whoops were easier and faster to jump a-la-Frenchy, instead of blitzing. He lost grip on the last 2, was pushing hard and looking good. Too bad.

It was his clutch that made him go down.
He was also trying to make up time for his poor start in the main, again from his clutch.

Can't it just be a mistake? Hasn't anyone here washed out before? It happens. Even to the best of them sometimes.

Mistake.
That line was kicking him around on prior laps. It seemed he was determined to blitz that far right side. Like last week, it seemed he didn't really finish his blitz. Front tire missed the last little whoop, and the rear stepped out.

Hell some of the blisters haven't even healed from the rubfest you and several others had when he came back onboard with Yamaha, did well in the Aussie SX, and had a great night earlier in the season finishing on the podium.

What place did he qualify in last night? And you know qualification results haven't been his strong suit for years.

Less than expected results lately and it's all Yamaha and their bike's fault. Get real.

As soon as I saw everybody jumping through the whoops I thought Reed was going to have an awesome night.

Sure enough he was one of the only guys to line em up and blitz them. He was looking good until the crash.

It looked like the whoops were pretty weird with the ruts from the guys jumping through them screwing it up a bit for the guys who wanted to blitz through them. Seemed like one those ruts tossed his back wheel to the side just as he was exiting them.

Too bad. The track suited him last night. I was hoping for a podium at least.

Yeah, it was really a great night for him. Great qualifying and heat reults, running top 5 before going down. Got back up and didn't just cruise it out the rest of the way.

Yeah for sure, It was awesome to see him go out in practice and get out front and put laps in. Seems to be a good thing to get him fired up.
