Never mind "I can't thank"... Why is it that nobody in the Moto-community can pronounce "asterisk" correctly?

Sound it out, fuckers!

Pronunciation note Expand

While asterisk is usually said as

[as-tuh-risk] (Show IPA) with the final syllable preceding the [k] a metathesized pronunciation is also heard, in which the [s] and [k] change places producing

[as-tuh-riks] . This pronunciation, resulting in part from analogy with plural forms like "kicks"and "sticks,"can sometimes lead to a false analysis of

[as-tuh-riks] as a plural pronunciation, with a corresponding singular

[as-tuh-rik] . The metathesized pronunciation, although occasionally heard among educated speakers, is usually considered nonstandard, as is the pronunciation with no [s] in the final syllable.

We aren't educated speakers...although we are in the standard, as it were....

Ricky seen him say it

Can I go to the libary to print out a paper? I get that sometimes, but rarely because I teach in an upper middle class area

I really dislike when people say 'seen it'

He rode that race good.

Ha. A few years ago this real redneck girl at work that used to always say "We was told. . . . " She thought she was the boss over her department but in all reality, she was the laughing stock of the dept. It used to drive me nuts to even walk over and talk to her about stuff because she was always so illiterate sounding. I definitely notice all of the grammatical errors here but I can let it go. There isn't a way to educate some people.

The only time a mispronunciation bothers me is when our president says Nuke You Lerr instead of Nuclear.

Incorrect pronunciation sounds dumb, no matter how common it is. How long before we accept aks, (axe), as simply non-standard but correct/acceptable?

Slippery slope toward Idiocracy and all that...

Is this the same thing people put on other rider's championships because another rider didn't race? Also, # is a pound sign, not a hash tag.
