Its official Raiders moving to Vegas. Looks like we will have a brand new home for supercross coming to the desert.

Would they leave Sam Boyd Stadium in favor of the new Raiders stadium? I don't know if they would, the tracks they build there are iconic.

If the Raiders share the stadium with UNLV I could see it happening.

This is great for the city of Las Vegas and State of Nevada. It absolutely will move the SX from the severely outdated and horribly placed Sam Boyd Stadium to a brand new state-of-the-art stadium right by the strip. Who wouldn't like to leave the race and simply walk to the strip?

Yea they would because UNLV is sharing the stadium which means Sam Boyd will probably be torn down.

Sam Boyd stadium is a shit box. The viewing for supercross is especially terrible. The more modern stadiums have more verticality to them, so second deck viewing is 1000x better than sitting at the top of Sam Boyd.

Yes it is going to move, I work at UNLV and just spoke with a friend that handles all the VIP stuff at T&M and he confirmed that UNLV will share the stadium with the Raiders. The stadium currently is projected to be built across the I15 (West Side) from Mandalay Bay so you wont be able to just hit the strip from the stadium unfortunately. I hope they some how figure a way to make a public transit, monorail, or pedestrian connection back to the strip or its going to be an utter mess getting to and leaving the stadium. There is certainly a metric shit ton of crappy areas between the campus and the strip that could be leveled to make way for the stadium that's for sure!

The only team LA fans want is the Raiders, who are leaving. And they are getting the LA Rams and LA Chargers who the fans don't really want lol Tongue

Once you go to modern day stadiums like MetLife Stadium, AT&T Stadium, and the like, Sam Boyd is a farm show compared to those behemoths. As long as the parking area is large like Sam Boyd (to continue their major pit party trend), I'd say move to the new Raiders stadium.

As far as oldest SX stadiums, Sam Boyd might be the oldest one currently on tour since the GA Dome is going away. Angels Stadium and St. Louis might be 2nd/3rd. Daytona tops it but that's different (Speedway / Non-Feld / Etc.)

X100.... The NFL is shooting themselves in the foot long-term with all this team shuffling. F the NFL. NFL stands for No F'n Loyalty, that's for sure. Anything to make those billionaires richer is all they care about.

I think the move for the Raiders is good, Oakland couldn't/wouldn't give then a stadium. The colosseum is freaking terrible. They didn't want to go to LA to share with another team. Vegas is willing to pay for a state of the art stadium (which looks really awesome) so why not move. Fans followed them from LA to Oakland why not to Vegas?

As far as where they hold supercross I'm hoping they keep it at Sam Boyd, mostly because of the space. The new stadium being close to downtown there probably wont be much parking, and traffic will be horrendous. Though I'm sure the new stadium will have much better views.

Didn't the legislative portion of the public funding include updates to the surrounding infrastructure for wherever the stadium ends up? I will be honestly shocked if they don't include some form of transportation/walk way from the stadium to the strip.

Damn. Kinda takes away the uniqueness of the layout unless they have some sort of Bercy tunnel system to mess around with.

I'd guess they'd leave Sam Boyd in a heartbeat.

Wasn't there talk of doing away with the Las Vegas SX in the last year? I think GuyB mentioned it

Im not 100% clear on those details of what the legislation required, however, i was invloved with the development of the Cardinals stadium in Glendale and I would be surprised if it wasnt required. Would be cool to walk from the race and just head to Mandaly or down to Aria/ Cosmo though!

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say Sam Boyd is glorified high school football stadium. Not quite as bad as the old Orlando race, FL in the Orange Bowl

Ahh billionaire team owners, millionaire players. And yet the average schlub gets to pay for their new playgrounds by falling for all of these bond election scams or local tax abatements for the team owners. Its always sold as an economic generator for the local economy, but you have to wonder; if its such a surefire money making deal, private money would be all over it. I don't follow traditional stick and ball sports and I resent the shit out of it when I'm forced to participate by paying "sports taxes" anytime I rent a hotel or car in certain cities. How ridiculous would it be to float the idea that we're going to levy taxes to pay for a F1 or SX/MX facility...that idea wouldn't float for 2 nanoseconds, yet somehow its acceptable when it comes to traditional sports. Don't even get me started with the local high schools that have stadiums that would rival most colleges that we're forced to pay for with property taxes.
