I tried with triple hernia, both sides and navel/abdominal. Riding with a wide kidney/support belt helped. I tried several times, I finally got them fixed in 2014. Had to do it old school, too much scar tissue from my cancer surgery. Still fighting to get stronger and recover, lots of nerve damage. As my Doctor said, "Let pain be your guide".

I'd get them fixed if possible. Mine healed after surgery in about 6 weeks.

I had mine fixed via key hole surgery in November. Took it easy for 4 weeks after then tried to move a pallet of goods at work.

Back to the surgeon I go.Sad

Get it fixed and take it easy for at least 3 months.

Funny thing is last season was the only time I have never worn a gut belt. Whistling

Def get them fixed and take it easy for 4 weeks, then get cycling to start the recovery, think I was back riding after 8 weeks with no after effects but am aware that these are 'weak' points and occasionally feel a bit pain but nothing like before

I have a mesh in my guts also, u will feel that for years to come, it's a strange feeling and it doesn't happen all the time but when I get a burning sensation around the area where they operated it's the mesh thing moving ever so slightly.

Find a surgeon that will fix them old school. That means no mesh. The surgeon next to me does it that way and ive never ever seen them back in the office with a repeat. Ever. He takes his time. It takes time in the OR. The newer mesh methods have increased infection rates and much more are needing to be redone. It can work with mesh but ur more likely to need a redo in my professional opinion. By newer i mean in the last 20 years or so so ya need to find an old school surgeon most surgeons are trained with mesh and its done so they can do 15 in a day instead of 4 or 5.

Good info and thanks for the replies. About five weeks ago when my left side pushed out OMG it was the worst pain I have ever experienced. It was 30 minutes of writhing around on the ground before it passed and I was like WTH was that? Kidney stones.....mother of all muscle cramps or possibly an alien creature was getting ready to rip through my stomach? Nope it was a freaking hernia!

The rub here is I want to race on June 20th but due to travel I won't have time to get fixed and be healed up in time. As a result if I race it will be with the hernias.

BTW the mesh feedback gives me pause for concern. ....again thank you all for replying.

IF you don't get it fixed get compression type shorts to hold your 'alien' in

Thanks for shorts tip. Will also check out trusses.

Team Green-appreciate the heartfelt advice. The rub is I have limited racing windows which creates scenarios where if I don't race it could be a year until next opportunity. Combine this with me not being the sharpest knife in the drawer and the result was racing 2 twenty motos at REM with a broken left 9th rib A1 Saturday 2014. If I was betting I think I will line up un repaired but I will get back to you after schlepping my luggage around the US for 3 weeks starting this weekend. Man I hate surprises and I did not need these hernias.

Best thing out of this thread is a heads up about the mesh. When I do get them fixed will do my best to avoid the mesh.

Digging up old thread I know but I am dealing with a minor hernia already went to my regular doctor he had a hard time detecting it completely, well yesterday I get up out of my seat and felt something and felt basically a third testicle I pushed on it and it popped back in.

Anyway I have an appt. with a surgeon but cant get me in for week and half, then if they do surgery Im sure I will have to wait longer.

My question is has anyone had luck with different supports or braces for these types of hernias, this is in my groin area.

I am just wanting to remain active safely as can until I get further advise and or it fixed.

Any help be awesome, thanks.

I tried everything you can think of. I even tried to make something. It depends on where your tear is. Remember that the burning pain is your intestines poking through the tear. Also, as you get older, your abdominal wall gets weaker with age. That is why you see so many older guys getting hernia surgery. A built in weakness in man's design. If you have the intestines poking through for too long, it cuts off the blood flow, then infection starts, and a much bigger surgery is involved.

If you can get a kidney belt/back brace low enough to cover the area you'll be good to go as long as you don't compete in a lifting competition

Mine is further down when it came out other day it was right next to my testicle or close to it, it didn't really hurt either just very awkward unsettling feeling, most the day I just have a dull achy pain in my groin area.

That aside I need to lose some weight and maybe start wearing a kidney belt I don't know if that would help this situation or not but I don't see it hurting anything either lol.

i had one about 5 years ago, wasnt really bad but the docs reccomended i get it seen to ASAP , and as i had private medical through work , i got it done, the guy was a sports specialist , who looked after the Leicester Tigers rugby team, so he knew his stuff, i was given a date which was the day before a race , swapped it over to the monday , and told him why , he said he could do a better job of it that would be more uncomfortable to start with , but would mean less chance of failing , and provided i could handle the pain, i could ride .

Never had another issue.

I had a hernia on the left side of my groin for about a year. About 6 months ago, each night for about 3 weeks, when I was about to go to sleep, I pushed it back in, all the way. It seems there were two layers, and getting it all the way back inside hurt quite a bit the first few days. Then one day, when I woke up, it was gone! It hasn't come back, and it's been about 7 or 8 months. I might have just gotten lucky, and the tear is probably still there, but at this point, the hernia is gone.
