http://supercross.com/roger-de-coster-extends-contract-with-ktm-to-2016/

It was big news back when it was announced that "The Man" Roger DeCoster had extended his team management contract with KTM through the end of the 2016 season. Well, that term is on the horizon. What's next for the 5x World Champ? Another re-up or off to a life retirement riding in a bunch of Gran Fondos and restoring vintage MX bikes?

Hmmmmm?

I could see him slowing down, they need to start thinking about bringing someone else up. But if KTM doesn't keep RD on the payroll in some capacity indefinitely they're making a big mistake.

I'm sure they renew his contract to align with the rest of Dungey's career. Possibly some overlap. Ryan will likely fill his position at some point.

I hope he's happy and that said "Happiness" has him staying at KTM...

Very..."Hopeful".

Roger is a Class Act and he continues to make our sport "better".

I read somewhere that he really enjoys what he's doing. Suzuki was so wrong to let him get away.

I hope he stays with it for a while longer, Its so cool to walk into a pit at a national or Supercross and see a living legend.

As the picture shows, he will be the new team rider/captain on the Chay Zed team.

Yeah, he was saying, not too long ago, he wanted to stay on. He's not done yet. And I can't see KTM letting him go. But who knows........

The Man will always be my hero. He got my lifetime vote back when I got a chance to meet him at a Rio Bravo Trans-AM back in the day. He didn't have to give my young, starstruck ass the time of day, but he answered all my dumb questions and made me feel like I was important. Very cool dude, and a real gentleman. I wish him well in whatever he chooses to do next...even if it's nothing at all.

Roger has told us on and off the show recently that he has no plans to retire when his contract is up.

I believe he will retire with KTM, but thankfully, not yet.

Any team that lets this guy slip thru their fingers is crazy.

Won't even try to tally his list of accomplishments as a manager.

Where he goes success follows.

Hope to see him stay as long as he wants. KTM appears to be a good fit and hopefully they are smarter than the other mfgrs that have not held onto him.

I have nothing to substantiate my observations except my personal opinion, but I think this is the direction KTM is headed. Dungey has a LONG road ahead of him and a BIG learning curve to accomplish before he could adequately take over for Roger. I don't think he'll be ready even in 2 or 3 years. But I would love to see Decoster stay around for another 3 or 4 years as long as he's happy, and continue to mentor and coach Dungey to be able to develop and maintain a team.

As far as Decoster's retirement, if he's happy, I don't see why he would go anywhere. Most "retirees" end up bored at home and that leads to a lot of problems in older people. I just don't see Decoster ever becoming that person. I think he'll want something to do until he no longer can physically do it.

Dungey will never take over for Roger, not sure why anyone thinks that.

I'll bet he stays for a year or two more and retire when dungey does.

71 isn't that old anymore by today's health standards. He looks great, I would keep on going, that's a dream job imo

This. He's a loyal guy and when you have the best of everything including the best rider, why would any of them break it off for anything less than the inevitable.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the AMA hired him as an advisor on the sport and development from an amature and professional standpoint. Applying his knowledge, intelligence and attitude across the sport as a whole would be great to see.

Some guys cant "retire".....

I've never met Rodger or even know anything about him, but I get the impression that what he's doing isn't work and more like a well paying hobby. In his mind he might already be retired.....

I do believe that Roger believes that a body in motion stays in motion. So keep moving
