hey guys, just got a call from a shop that has an RMZ250 that they need to get rid of. it is not running and they have no idea why it will not run. I'm thinking of attempting a 250 t conversion with my 04 RM250 engine.( I also have a freshly rebuilt 2000 RM 250 engine sitting around).

I have seen 125cc in the RMZ 250 chassis, has anyone had any experience with a 250 t?

the bike will still end up costing me 1000.00 , its an 07. based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba ,Canada. I have heard that there is a shop in Manitoba somewhere that can complete aluminum frame conversions, anyone know of this shop?

thanks

its very tempting. I have read a few threads over in thumpertalk and it seems like it would be a fairly easy conversion. need to find out if anyone can fabricate the downtube, that sounds like the only major issue. moving the mounts and doing the mod for the swing arm pivot seem pretty easy.

Did it myself and I'm a nurse by trade. One foot of 1x1 inch aluminum square tube, half inch angle aluminum, cutoff wheels, best riding buddy can TIG weld. I used a 05 RMZ 450 frame and an 05 RM250 motor. It went fairly easy. An 06 RM125 air box boot fit perfectly, and I had to move all of the pipe mounts.

I honestly dont see any benefit of using the aluminum frame. The steel RM frame is bulletproof and IMHO is better.

That was my first thought. A modern aluminum frame RM 2T is cool but almost every top level rider says they prefer the steel frame over the aluminum. The RM 2T turns like a cat on carpet in stock form, I don't see how an aluminum frame could improve on that. However, as usual, I'm probably wrong so take that in to consideration.

I agree...especially if your not getting more modern ergos, suspension, and brakes.

If the chassis is significantly newer than the one it is replacing, that makes more sense. Not only because of the updated ergonomics and suspension components, but also because of the availability of replacement parts, aftermarket/performance parts, graphics, and things like that.

maybe in CAN where its harder to get a bike. but i got my 09 kx250f in '11 for 2300, sold engine for 1300. an 07 rmz chassis for 1K is so so but imho not a killer deal. you can almost pick up any running bike for 2-2500 and part engine and carb out and be at 1K.

sounds like engine is included. if they cant figure out why its not running, they probably put the usual top end in, cleaned carb, etc. so if its electrical the whole engine is up for grabs to sell and replace, or trace the electrical and replace for a few hundred. either way there are parts available to sell, then use the money gained to replace whats obviously worn. you could have a completely gone through 250 for under 2k, versus just picking one up for 2k, then replacing parts. in theory obviously

his thread title states 'rolling chassis'. so sounds like frame/susp only. but maybe he means rolling as in the 4T junk wont crank haha. if it does come with the engine then yeah thats a killer deal for sure. sell engine for 500$ and never look back.

it does have an engine, the bike is complete. I guess someone traded it in on a car or something. it has been sitting in inventory for over a year. they tried to get it to run and have had no luck. this to me sounds electrical or something because if it was locked up you would definitely know immediatley

+1. if thats the case i'd spend a little time/money in seeing if its something minor to fix. then possibly making a profit on it. then turn around and get a newer bike, and part the engine out and still be the same price!

If I was personally going to do a chassis swap I would use a 10.5 or newer RMZ frame.
The older generation frame is chunky looking and has big heavy looking shrouds and side panels.
Your bike will look dated.
There are plenty of grenaded 2010 RMZ's around...

auto shop from the sounds of it....

those guys would have to train a platoon of mice to get in there and work on it.

electrical? pretty sure even some monkeys at a car dealership could check to see if it sparks.

its probably as simple as ethanol sludge build up in the pilot circuit. (which means every circuit is probably gummed up)

now, put on your bullshit cap and go in there and tell them it is the harmonic distortion resonance balancer fluid exchanger, and that it is about $1,500 to purchase, if you can find one that is, because Suzuki discontinued them.

this should get them to drop the price even further because chance are these ass hats will have no clue what you just said, but they will be scared by it.
