That is scary. I know I did not use sun screen many many days when I was younger.

I've had several skin cancers removed. Lucky for me, none have been melanoma. But, I now go to the dermatologist every 6 months for a checkup. My message here is the same as RC's. I'm 48 yoa and our skin cancer is caused by all of the sun damage we sustained when we were much younger. I take every precaution now, just like RC. But it's kinda too late. Everyone take notice of this and take preventative measures now.

I remember, a few years back, RC posted a photo of his leg after some treatment.

If you have the cancer gene, it doesn't matter if you're in the sun or not. The bad sun burns only make it show up faster. You can get melanoma on parts of the body that never see sun.

my pops spent long days in the sun for years and years, between moto and working outside for a living. He has had melinoma removed 5-6 times in the last few years. My mom just let me know that there is more again coming out this week.

Sucks, get well soon Ricky

OShow had the same issue.

He is a big advocate of using sunblock while cycling.

What the hell I did not expect that kind of graphic picture Sick Think dinner will have to wait another hour or two now haha

From my understanding this is not dead serious, treatment and he will be fine? Wish him all the best though

Better than wearing sunscreen is to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day, and cover up when you can't avoid being out there.

I'm not saying sunscreen is all bad. The big downside of wearing it though is the false sense that it's going to prevent all damage.

RC will be in my prayers. A very good friend of mine beat the worst form of melanoma. It's scary stuff.

Get well RC!

We have a good friend who has been given a time line after the lung cancer that was first discovered in her lungs and now made it to the brain and all the chemo isn't working. She is the nicest person you will ever meet and never, ever smoked a cigarette in her life. She also has a family with 4 beautiful kids. Life isn't fair for sure or a given. Sorry to turn vent on you guys.

There will be no more chemo or hope. Only the good times remaining that they are throwing everything at.

Here is where a 6mm mole used to be. Turns out that after it's determined that it is melanoma, they remove the "margins" to make sure they get it all. Credit card size chunk of skin and about 3/4 of an inch deep removed from my arm. Checkups every six months now.

They discovered a small mole (melanoma) on my aunts shoulder. We think her dermatologist might have botched the initial biopsy. It spread fast and in less than a year she was gone. It is some serious shit...

So sorry to hear mate, just awful to hear these stories but awareness for everyone sharing stories will hopefully help others....

My dermatologist believes if there is any inkling that a mole may be melanoma that it should just be removed completely as biopsy can make the cancer react aggressively.

Please have her look into 2 treatments. The first is a new drug called Keytruda that is getting very, very good results with cancer, and SRS radiation, that is targeted to the actual tumors.
They're both very expensive so the doctors and insurance companies are not going to recommend it to everyone.
I believe they saved my friend's life. There are some non-traditional treatments that help, but it sounds like she needs to look into, and demand Keytruda right away.

I wish her the best.

My dad has been diagnosed of skin cancer "melanoma" and we decided pospone the surgery and try the methodology of the link below; adter 4 weeks the cancer was gone, and never appered again ( this was 5 years ago).
Now he has just been diagnosed of another one on a different part of his body, and we just started this treatment again.
I'm not a doctor, just telling our experience.

For skin cancer, a 7% iodine tincture should be spread on the affected area, 20-30 times once a day, with the aim of producing a number of layers of crusts. After this treatment, the cancer will be gone and stay away forever.
