Hi guys, posting on behalf of a friend.

We were wondering if replacing a clutch cover is simply a case of draining oil, undoing bolts, new cover and gasket in and re tightening? Or is there more to it than that? Thanks!

Yeah, thats it,you can lay the bike on its side and not drain.

Some engines have a clutch setup that the linkage is in the cover ,it pulls the pressure plate . That would be a little more involved.

Ain't seen one on a full size mx bike in years since that made the cases a bit wider. Minibikes may still have that setup though.

Maybe running full Hinson or Rekluse? But by him asking the question I assume not.

Sometimes the rear brake lever is in the way. Instead of removing it, spread your rear brake pads open, then you'll have full travel of the lever, push it down and stick a long screwdriver between it and bottom of engine to hold it out of the way for access to all bolts and replace cover. I always lay bike on its left side with the left grip on my stand and bars turned all the way right.

Edit: don't forget to pump your rear brake, before needing it when riding, following this procedure!

DON'T over-torque the bolts!

Use a small-torque wrench on those little m6 bolts.
