Play bikes?

Alright so here is the situation. I am considering getting out of moto and going back to vintage and woods and am contemplating selling my YZ125. I have a friend with a broken back right now and another with broken ribs, my dad broke his arm earlier this year and I'm just overall not feeling as happy riding as I should. I live on a farm so I have plenty of land to ride if I want to and was wondering what you guys thought about play bikes. I would maybe race a vintage race every once and a while(they have a modern play bike class) and maybe a hare scramble in the sportsman class but otherwise I'd be trail riding. Thinking a TTR, KLX,CRF,Or DRZ model 125-150cc, thoughts?

YZ 125 is a play bike. Guys seem to be pretty happy with the KLX 140 in the recent pit bike thread.

A 125 may be to most people but when you weight 125 and can barely touch the ground, it isn't a play bike in my book.

KTM 200? Maybe not a play bike but...I ride to enjoy the experience and not to see how fast I can go. As long as I can wheelie a little, jump a few little jumps and sling some dirt.....I am good with that!

she get's a lot more seat time then her sister for sure and a lot easier to load up at the end of the day!!

If that 125's getting away from ya I'll second tennis.
It's not getting away from me, but I don't feel like I can just screw around on it. It's a race bike, I just want to play around for a bit, but I mean, tennis is sorta funLaughing seriously though, I think you guys are missing the point I don't want to quit riding, I just think I need a change of pace. I just want something I can come home from school and buzz around in the woods for a bit without feeling like I'm having to rip it up like I'm racing.

I have a TTR125 that I cruise around on with my kids, it's a good play bike but the forks on mine are horrible. I also have a Honda 350 Atv that is fun too. Otherwise I moto down on a KX450.

i find big wheel 85s or 100s are a lot of fun to screw around on.i bought one for my girlfriend before her 125... turns out i rode the 100 as much as she did. im 6'0, 165 pounds. it sounds like you are pretty light, so the 100 may be the best fit for a bike in general. best part is, you can pick them up cheap.

This is my current ride but I don't know if I'm feeling it anymore, but it sure is a nice bike...thanks to those who have weighed in so far.

My play bike is a YZ490! I can relate. Though it's more like a "pay" bike at this point.. damn 2 strokes.

KTM free ride, Beta X trainer or a trials bike are other options.

I really enjoy my KLX140L. Whether you want to call it a pit bike, a play bike or whatever, they are a solid choice. They are offered with three different sizes of wheels now. Kawasaki just added a version with full size wheels for 2017.

?

It should be way easier to start than your YZ... With the stock hockey-stick starter and more mild compression, I can start mine with my hand (and have done so in awkward situations).

How can you not start a kdx?

And I get the feeling here (correct me if I am wrong) from your post and pictures, that you are pretty young, and I agree a YZ125 may be way too much bike for just goofing around on the ranch. I think a TTR, CRF, KLX all may be just more enjoyable for now as just as a get-on-and-go ride, but you may want to keep that YZ or KDX for a year or two down the road.

If you are on a farm a KLX 110's are great. Get one after 2010(i think) so they have electric start. No clutch so you can ride with a juice box or what ever and ride around to check animals and such. If you have neighbors, they will be happy about the low noise.

Get yourself an old 2stroke.. My 1972 Suzuki TS185 is a blast yet very manageable for almost anyone to ride

Look for an old XR200 if you can find one. They are made for farting around.

My old ttr 125 used to be so fun since you could just a pin it everywhere lol, that's my suggestion. Plus they're pretty cheap!
