Heres an annual "how strict are the stadiums with people bringing in their cameras" post. For those that have brought their gear in, what have you managed to get in and not get harassed about and what stadium was this? I'm hoping to bring some stuff (a couple of bodies, at the biggest telephoto I can manage) in at A1 and SD SX to shoot practice/qualifying, but I don't know what the repercussions of getting called out for it will be. Anyone have any good info? Thanks in advance.

I'm more worried about what would happen if I got caught with it than I am getting the stuff in.

It's been a while but my wife had her stuff and the only thing she couldn't take in was a monopod. She had a dslr and about 3 lenses with her.

If you can get a wrist band for industry seating, from a competitor, it allows you to enter thru a restricted entrance where they don't check your stuff. You could bring just about anything, I imagine. It may be different in CA, with all the families, friends, and industry folk, but works great on the east coast.

yeah no, even with a family member pass they check all your bags etc. I recently heard a friend of mine saying something about a lens size not being allowed, basically no telephoto's.

My Son took his cannon with 3 different lens. The biggest being a 70/200F4 L series

San Diego and A2 I believe last year. He had no hassle from anyone.

When my Son raced in the KTM jr SX in 2007 at Las Vegas they told us we could take as many pictures of the riders on the track as we wanted and video of them anywhere off the track but if we were caught video taping them on the track they would take the camera and destroy the video tape.

They will just ask you to put it back in your truck. Might even give you an escort out of the stadium.

Ok smartass

They said no electronic motion picture acquisition of any kind allowed.
If caught they would destroy the media on which it was recorded regardless of what was on the media besides their intellectual property.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I drive a truck that I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my gear in my truck if they were to tell me to exit with it and leave it outside so I'm deciding whether or not its worth gambling with.

Decided to give up on bringing in my 300 2.8 and am going to try to get in two bodies, one with a 70-200mm 2.8 and the other with a 15mm 2.8. Looking forward to watching some good racing this weekend! I'll be there as soon as the gates open, hoping the day schedule isn't shortened by rain.

You don't "need" a 300 anyway. 70-200f2.8 (even an F4 does fine) is all you need (if you want, just take a 2x with you) and you won't have any problems getting it in and using it. I guess I should say "shouldn't" as you never know if there is that one "TOOL" employee that thinks he's the po po.

Pretty sure this was with f4 many years ago from stands:
