It has been a long time since we have seen the passing of the torch in the big bike class, but it looked a lot like it tonight. The deisel should have owned this one but et3 caught him from wayyy back. Webb nailed his first podium and looked really fast. We knew the days of dungey winning would come to an end at some point, this season just might be the one.

Did you forget about week 1 when KRoc won by 18 seconds?

Bit early for passing of the torch talk. Tomac rode awesome. Dungey did what he needed to do. Lots of racing left.

Dungey will win the championship and perhaps retire after this season. Webb on the podium just shows one more heavy contender to deal with each race. This season is shaping up to be an awesome one.

Passing of the torch statements must always be viewed in hind sight.

For example, had McGrath won more races in 2001 against RC the torched would not be viewed as "passed" at A2/3. If Dungey NEVER wins again and Tomac goes on to dominate for a season or two this race will be viewed with more significance.

As of now let's see it for what it is without jumping to any conclusions: a great ride for Tomac running down and pass in the champ.

Only time can answer your question. One race is not part of the question.

Dungey's bad nights are almost everyone else's good nights. Still.

Tomac has always had rides like this since his 250 days. When hes on hes on and no one can hang. Unfortunately he doesnt bring that every weekend. Maybe if he strings 5 or 6 in a row we can start talking about championships. Hes still 17 points out as of right now.

When I was in high school "Passing of the torch" meant it was your turn to pass the fatty and the lighter.

There's no porch to pass. Dungey has never had it. You have to be the most dominant rider in a certain era to have the "torch". Dunge is the second fiddle guy. Great rider, career...but still, second fiddle.

The higher ups at Feld should force Dungey into retirement since he no longer has the torch.

Tomac will be watching on sidelines with Roczen pretty quick here if he keeps going that fast.

Lol okay. This guy has the most 450 championships of any active rider but doesn't have the torch? Who has it? Your logic is BS.

Things change rapidly around here... do they not?
In the last two weeks we've got Kenny handing the crown to Dungey who himself is passing the torch to Tomac? I'm speechless. Stay tuned for round six of seventeen next week! Grinning

So last week Kenny passed the crown to Dungey who this week passed the Torch to Tomac?
Sounds like reality TV racing to me.
I hope the script has Dungey getting the torch back. Tune in next week for round six! Grinning

Eli pretty much just went ape shit and charged to the front, did not care how far ahead Dungey was and hit that 3-4 (or 3-3-1) line with scary constincency in those ruts. With Dungey not likely to return for 2018 I'd say the torch is very close to being passed, depends on how Eli handles the rest of SX and MX this year and then Roczen's speed upon returning, whenever that ends up being.

I think its a bit early, but deffo in progress. Eli clearly has the raw speed but does he have the mental fortitude and consistency over the whole season? Roczen was owning him Outside last year before Dungey crashed out too. Its happened to every other champion apart from the ones that retire super young.
