1988-1996 CR's are all very good looking bikes in my eye. It's all probably just perspective I guess. That's the era I grew up in and those are the bikes I had posters of on my wall.

The '92s color was way out there, though -- especially after they all quickly faded to a really odd shade of salmon.

Speaking of color, in '93-96 I think everything in the world was purple. '93-'95 KTMs , '95 CRs, and '96 KXs are all purple.

Another observation: that massive 1st gen superbike-style aluminum frame looked so trick and futuristic at the time, and now it looks probably the most dated of all these.

i would agree. They we're very cool. But, you are right, they do look very dated.

I had one. A 1998 250. I've never disliked a bike more than that one. The motor was fantastic (the whole generation of that motor was fantastic), but that chassis was brutal. The next gen was the opposite; really great chassis, shit box motor. I had two of those, a 2002, and a 2004.

My 1st bike was a 1990 CR125. Bought it used for $1200. I did not have truck, so a friend and I put it in the back hatch of my Mustang GT. LOL Good times...

My 2nd bike was a brand new 1997 CR250. Paid like $5800+ for it and put it on a 19% interest credit card (I was young). I quickly realized how nasty 19% interest was. LOL. I thought it was the most bad ass bike ever. The magazines all said it was the worst bike Honda made in a long time. I did not know better. It was my first 250. I thought it was supposed to vibrate like that.
