What kind of pain medication is available to Professional athletes that allows them to safely compete with separated shoulders, broken bones, torn ligaments, etc. What do these guys take that keeps their heads clear and the pain away? Or is it just adrenaline and big cajones?
This would only be referring to joint damage like a knee, hand, elbow, foot, shoulder...etc

I'd assume if it's not banned, it's permitted.
Not claiming it's the same, but I've had a number of left (through the groin) and right (through the neck) heart cats where the incisions are done with a local (lidocaine) without any sedation, and my son had surgery on his ear with the same, and its painless. I think that the same thing they do in the NFL when they kill pain in the rib area.
Not sure it's a great idea, but the guys at that level are weighing different factors and incentives for current performance that us mortals.

I know a lot of riders tend to have higher pain tolerances it seems then average athletes...maybe it is from all the jarring they do to their bodies.

But Toradol makes me sick to my stomach, really weird.
It got a lot less frequent when they were able to just pull blood to do the rejection tests with genetic markers rather than pull actual specimens. Nothing quite like feeling someone plucking bits of tissue from inside your heart. And it sounds like someone's pulling a brake cable from its sheath when they take it back out the neck.
Tell me about it! i probably take more a day by lunchtime than most do a week Im in kind of a fucked situation until i decide to have that surgery...but im just too damn scared to do it.
My doctor worked w/ a college football team back in the day and he said the coaches would urge him to pass out percoset like candy on the bus before the games.
A lot of football players talk about having to take a pain shot right before a game, but what besides a narcotic has an immediate affect? Cortisone in my shoulder takes a good day, sometimes 2 before it is fully effective. I cant imagine a 250+Lbs doped up dude running after my ass on the field!!
