Its quite easy to figure out the top 22 (they changed it from 20) with the Championship points...but what about the rest** I emailed the AMA , havent heard back and honestly not one person I have asked seems to know!
Help is much appreciated Smile

What don't you understand? Top 20 scores points, 21-40 don't.

24-27 for 35th overall? Seems to be pretty normal to see random stuff like that at races. How did he finish?

Why don't they offer points from 20th back, and add more points to the top 20? Just curious, it never made much sence to me.

Edit. Damn phone

22-28 for 30th, or 28th on the home page here Wink The finish is not the problem but look at the sheet. Riders with 30+ finishes in both motos were ahead of him overall. Just trying to get the jyst of how they score. thanks

Looking at the overalls from Hangtown the riders who scored zero points were scored different in each class.

The 250 class, they used how the riders finished in the second moto.
http://americanmotocrossresults.com/data/2012/01/250_overall.pdf

The 450 class the added both moto finishes together to get the overall positions.
http://americanmotocrossresults.com/data/2012/01/450_overall.pdf

I believe the correct way they do it is like they did for the 450 class.

If you don't score points in a moto it is scored like the amateurs, by moto scores, if a rider scored points in one moto and not the other, the guy with the better finish outside of getting points will finish ahead of the other.

That is what I thought...so you think it was a mistake on the 250 class results? Box score for my son on Allisports is 24th. That seems correct

I took a complete stab in the dark without looking at the results and I was pretty close! Hope you all get it figured out.. watched him ride the mudfest at the Fast Traxx area qulifier last year in Nelsonville, Ohio and kept an eye on him since. Best of luck to you guys this year.

35s Mom, that was a technical snafu. For the last couple of years we have had a system in place where riders are ranked first by overall points in the moto -- down to 20th position in each moto -- and then by order (position, laps) -- so that there is a true reflection of the race results for everyone who finished.

Somehow, the scoring system was "still on Supercross mode" (we use the same truck, computers and transponders) and that did not automatically happen, so the scorers in the truck had to go back and reconfigure the overall scoring to reflect the full race (and all finishers). I apologize for the mix-up, opening-day techno-dofficulties.

If you ever have a question, please contact: JCanfield@mxsports.com, or you can email me: DC@mxsports.com

As for giving points from 21st to 40th, there has been a lot of discussion about that lately. I hope we can come up with a good solution (maybe up to 30th?) but it's hard to change about 40 years of scoring a certain way....

Anyone with suggestions, let's have them.

I needed a calculator just to read that.....Its hard enough now for the "average" fan to figure out who won now. How do you think that would work?

Everyone that qualifies should be given points. If you did guys would at least differentiate themselves after the top 20. Now it's basically you're top 20 or we don't care where you finish, you're just there to fill the gate.

What about this DC...

Also, I like the idea of giving a point to the top lap of qualifying and the holeshot. Those could potentially shake things up and give some points to some privateers every so often.

Why not score like the MXoN? Lowest score wins.

Edit: Found an MXA article that I saw awhile back:

http://motocrossactionmag.com/Main/News/WHY-THE-NATIONALS-NEED-A-NEW-SCORING-SYSTEM-NOT-A-853.aspx
When the announcers (pretty much continually) don't know the overall finishing positions at the end of the second moto it is past time IMHO to go to Olympic scoring.

Post a reply to: PLEASE explain to me the AMA MX scoring system...
